I noticed that someone did take some video at the field, if I can locate who that was I'll post it...I hope I can because I greased that landing...

(I was too busy fly' n to check, and they left after my first landing)

Thanks fokke,

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! It's abit heavy and overpowered...it flys just the way I like my warbirds!

Thanks!

Casey
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out too mate!
Looks wonderful.
I had to pick which warbird to fly at the weekend now I am back home and yes I picked the 109. Two more great flights with nice landings.
Good to see lots of '109' activity.

Cheers,

Brad

Hey Guys, anybody put a DLE30 in this plane? The new DLE30 has a rear exhaust and I would imagine this would be a good fit. Thanks.

Took mine out today, and I got in three great flights. I wasn't going to go up for the third flight as the wind was gusting fairly hard 90 degrees to the road I was flying off of, but after a failed take off attempt due to being caught by a gust and blown towards a fence line, I was up again. The new 5 cell 5000MaH 65C battery packs I used worked great. The Power 160 seemed to be alittle crisper on the throttle. After a 6 min flight, I turned in to practice an approach. Just as I did the wind started gusting again with a 90 degree crosswind. I was carrying alittle more speed than I would for a landing,(as this was a practice run)I was with full flaps down when I realized that I had a perfect line for landing. A little fast, but this worked out perfect for the crosswind and I flew it in and greased the landing(probably my best ever!!!). I had a nice long roll out on the mains, correcting for the crosswind with the rudder as it tracked right down the right side of the road to a stop! Probably my best take off and landing, and they were both in a crosswind lol.

Today I was lucky, next time it will probably be the fence.

Gave mine an outing just over a week ago. Still tries to nose over on takeoff and landing but I'm learning to manage this. Flies nicely so don't want to change too much.
Got a good landing in progressively adding elevator once on the ground to keep the tail down. Approach with flaps down was very benign, almost floating in.

Was up for a second flight but found that the motor (Laser 150) was loose. Had a bad feeeling something was badly wrong but when I took the cowl off it was just the motor mount screws come loose. Resassembled with a generous dose of Loctite, something I have never had the need for on a glow motor before.

Got to get to sticking those plastic bits on sometime!

Mine is all ready to go. I even managed a bit of maintenance on it including checking that all the gear was where it was meant to be inside the forward fuselage. (Where all my gear is)
Batteries are fine so just have to line up the planets and get down to the field. This really is my favourite model I have.

Cheers,

Brad

Default RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread

Hi all, been building my ME 109 while following this thread. Had 8 flights. My findings and settings.
YS 110.
CG about 108,
Throws as per instructions with about 20% expo [ my prefence]
Flaps as per instructions [ although she lands OK with out]
Crow, first flaps 5mm second about 8 mm. I know its not scale but found it helps stabililty.
Carbon pushrod on elevator as the wooden dales flex too much for me. [OK on rudder though]

Take off, no nosing over, hold a small amount of elevator and LOADS right rudder and away she goes.
Flying. Very nice, CG feels about right for me at 108 ish.
Landing. Ah Landing Fly it in on the THROTTLE, a nice approach gradually losing altitude then once over threshold come off the power and steady with elevator. As said before on here [ hopefully in the picture] very small amount of elevator, run it in on the mains come off the elevator, Job Done
Dont try and land with elevator. [ ie shut throttle and fly in on elevator, it will all end in tears]
Hopefully pics upload, really enjoy this plane but need to concentrate on landing. Looks great in the sky but as can be seen from photos i may change the tail wheel.
Dave

What engine do you use? Is it any 4-stroke?

Thanks Gents.
Prekin yes its a YS 110 [Yamada] Four stroke, probably equivalent to an OS 120 or as Redback has a Laser 150. Flys well on that size engine, not too fast but enough to get you out of trouble.

Redback, a guy at our club has the Laser 150 sounds lovely and flys well with it. I had the YS110 out of a Pattern ship so thought it would go OK.

Brad, cheers yeah the earlier scheme looks aggresive, may need to beef up the cockpit as he looks a bit lonely in there and possibly a more scale tail wheel. Not sure why i called it a "it", shes a lady

Need to get some more flights on her, not gonna change anything it all feels good to me. UK weather at the moment sunny and light winds, why cant it be like that at the weekends.
Dave.

Schummie,,, have you flown this thing yet??? Last we heard you were going off to show it off.

I tried to fly mine this morning but after a spun prop, and then a nose over in long grass on the take off roll I packed it up with a split prop.
Still better to take it home in one piece.

Cheers,

Brad

Weathers cr@p here at the moment wet and windy, took this week off to get some flying in, oh well.[:@] I see a lot of guys have noseing over problems, never had this on my one. CG 108 and retract units in as recommended, no washers underneath rear of unit to push forward as some have done. I fly from grass and just hold a small amount of elevator in while taxing then increase gently to full power, off elevator until she has plenty of air speed then feed in elevator and away she goes. Not sure if this will help, maybe they are nose heavy on the CG?
Dave.

Dave.
This latest effort was my very first nose over on take off as I underestimated the length and 'wettness' of the grass. When I went to retrieve the 109 I was amazed how the grass was.
I am not far off your technique Dave, being slow on the throttle while keeping it straight and just being ready on the elevator. If I am very strict with my landing procedure then my elevator is trimmed up a touch and keeps the tail down just a bit for a beaut mains run on take off until she breaks ground. Pays to double check every thing ay?

Cheers,

Brad

Brad they do ask for a bit of respect these Warbirds every time you fly them, i think mine is out to get me at every take off and landing . Yes your right wet grass can be a pain, really do like this plane i just have to concentrate alot when taking off or landing.
Happy flying.

I am considering bying this plane, and have a couple of questions for the helpful owners out there:

Is the DLE 20 powerful enough? 15x6x3 @ 9100 produces 13 lbs static thrust so theoretically it should be right for scale flying

How much weight am I looking to add up front? the DLE 20 is about 2 lbs incl battery, will it need more?

And if anybody has the inside cowl dimensions so I can calculate if a pitts muffler will fit

Thanks
Nick

Brad,

Sorry for the late reply.
Havn't flown mine yet. I'm having some trouble with my eyes at the moment. Nothing too serious, but i'm having trouble seeing the planes at some distance.
So I,m a bit afraid to fly the camouflaged Me-109 at the moment.
I'm experimenting with a stabilisation gadget too keep me out of trouble in case of trouble with orientation of the plane. Testing an Eagle Tree 2D/3D in my Calmatoe 60. If this works i'll build it in the me-109.
I'll keep you guys posted.
Your Me still in one piece I hope.

Eric Schumacher, The Netherlands

I have been reading you reports on the 109.
Very nice i have one also, i have a OS120FS flys great.
I to have eye problems do you know what floaters are Not good.
I cannot fly some of my planes anymore because of it.
So i build airplane for friends and people that just do not have time.
Engine DLE20 i just got done putting one in a cub.
the DLE has the simular weight as a OS120
It would be a good choice for the 109 and give you plenty of power.

Thanks for your reply. Finally I got one 2nd hand at a bargain price with a broken leading edge after a bad landing - easy repair!

It has a Moki 180 gas, Sierra retracts, scale wheels (Glennis?) and has been repainted in late-war RLM 74-75-76 camo

I will do a complete check-over and hope to fly it in a couple of weeks
