Another Check6 Production***Byron Corsair Overhaul
Here we go again. This is probably my 7th. Byron Corsair and as usual when you buy a used Corsair upgrades are in order. This is an older plane, which flew well but needs some work. I will be installing flaps, strengthening the stab, cleaning up some fuselage problems, changing servo installation. adding scale details, etc. It's probably easier building from a fresh kit, but I like a challenge LOL. anyway feel free to add comments and suggestions.
Thanks,

Here are some pics of what the plane looks like now. I will start by overhauling the retracts. I take them apart , strip all the old paint off, replace worn parts, relube the springs, polish the struts, refinish and reinforce the wheels where the axels attach.

Tony,
Think how nice it will look when it's all done. Then I get to sell it to you for lots more money. LOL
Carl, these Corsairs search me out, I'm like a long lost friend.
One retract apart and struts cleaned up. Brass bushings are installed in the wheels and then the inside hub is filled with JB Weld. This supports the wheel and makes it extremely strong and wear resistant.

Fred
Where do you find these birds? I have a Pica Spit I bought from you and did an overhaul on it. Good Luck. I think the Byron Corsair is one of the best out there.

Peter, love the toy story repair man, looks just like me and he has the sick attitude LOL
Moggy, There out there, there were 3 of them on RCU a little while ago, I think there are 2 still posted.
Wheel hubs with brass tubing bushings and supported by JB Weld. Tires have been cleaned and ArmorAll applied wheels are painted

Starting to reinforce the stab. The stab on the Corsair can be a week point with a small plywood trailing edge and the rest is butt glued. An easy fix which really strengthens the stab is to epoxy in a 12 in. piece of aluminum tube. I cut a slot in the stab and slide the tubing through. This tube is also epoxied to the 1/16 in. ply bulkhead just behind the tailwheel mount. After the tube is epoxied , a balsa filler piece is glued in over the aluminum spar. The stab is now really anchored in with no flexing.

Got the flaps in the gull part cut and capped. also hinge blocks glued in. Have the trailing edge spar glassed in the gull. Really hate the smell of polyester resin. Leading edge blocks will be added as well as cutting out the flaps on the wing panels.
