Default 3 Blade Warbirds

I'm looking for a 3 bladed warbird to build during the winter. I'll be using a Byron Purr Power 3 blade 4.2 setup. So far there's the Stuka, P-40, Zero, Corsair, Hellcat, T-28 and Spit MK III. I know there's more but I cannot think of them. Need your help. Thanks!

Default WOW!

WOW!!! I was thinking about a Ziroli Stuka because there is no retracts to worry about. But now with all these, hhmmm,
Who knows? Thanks again.

That's interesting.... I usually build planes I like to look or its one of my favorite. I did not think one would pick a warbird with 3 blades.... I guess all the warbirds are favorites anyways

Those "Others" are ok, but what about the twins?
P-38, OV-10, F-7 Tiger Cat, or go crazy.....B-17.
OK so I am partial to multi's.
Why be normal with at single?

if you like 3 blades look at Jerry Bates plans and the Yak 3,Beautiful airframe with a 6 inch spinner up front,it's the 1/4 scale kit.I'm building right now and have the wing almost complete. Here is the spinner and prop that is going up front

Default Nice prop!

I'm using what I have to get what I want. I have a Sachs 4.2 and it will have the Byron 3 blade Purr Power System on it. That's why I'm looking at 3 blade warbirds. No problem with the twins, I just have only one engine .
I have looked at the Yak-3 and it is beautiful. What engine will you be using? Are you scratch building or using a cut kit? Thanks.

for the Yak I'm using a 3w 70 rear carb ,I have to fabricate an exhaust though because the stock one won't fit in the cowl plus the cowl is built up so I will make one of them too.The kit was cut by Cornell Michaels out of Michigan but it is as close to scratch building as you can get.The directions are approx 2 or 3 sentences long on each print definately a builders kit!!!!

Default 3 blade prop on a Q 100 ?

Question ...

Anybody try / run a 3 blade on a Quadra 100? I finishing up a Spitfire and plan to run that setup ( 24 - 10 Mejelik on a 6 inch spinnner)

I have never run it yet, and was hoping to find someone who has.

Pretty cool when you see a 3 blade in the pits.. ya think its a static prop... until the pilot takes it out and fires it up !

What about a Byron warbird that was made for that prop setup ?? Would make it an easy installation.

Default Three Blades

As long as we are talking three blades, thought would throw in two cents. If someone using the ZDZ 80 single, the mezjlik 23x14n turns 8100 rpm at 90F and high humidity.

Default twinman .. Thanks !

That is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for ! A 3W 80 is pretty powerful to spin that prop at 8100 rpm !

I imagine the Q 100 has "about" the same range of power .... I'm running a larger prop with less pitch. Hope it hits 7200 to 7500. I guess time will tell.

The final markings are taking forevere to paint !

Thanks again.... JIM

Default ZDZ 3 blade

To IFLYRC the engine I reported on is the ZDZ 80 not the 3W. Sorry, cannot help with that one....and yes I have two of them and they hit within 100 rpm of each other...Sure you don't want a three blade twin.......you have to hear this to note the sweet sound of sync'd gas engines.

Default twinman ...

Oops... a ZDZ 80 cc engine. I've heard prety good reviews of these. I am still assumming a similar power output to a 100 cc single engine.

Unfortunately, test flights here in Mich are delayed until it warms up ... ugh. I hate to wait that long !

Twins... my good friend flys a Ziroli P 38. What a plane, and you're right about the sound AND the "wow" factor is there too !
