Default Stump Jumper P-51

Okay, I'm going to try Nelson paints. I called and they want me to copy and send a pic of this plane so they can give me the colors.

Question: Is this olive drab 41 or US green, insignia Red, and yellow
along with the obvious black and white?

I would rather call and order and save the time and hassle of going down to Kinkos to make a copy if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance!

http://www.hotel.wineasy.se/ipms/stu...rcharts_us.htm

Urban has great and reliable info. The chart says the olive drab 41 was used until 1943, then the ANA 613 olive drab took over.

ANA 613 Olive Drab
Topside of USAAF aircraft after 1943 FS:34087

41 Olive Drab Topside of USAAF aircraft until 1943 FS:34087

I always prefer to use the FS numbers when ordering from Nelson's. The P-51D's were definitely post 1943
Good luck,

Default Stump Jumper P-51

Stump Jumper, when it was owned and flown by Jerry Hayes was a frequent visitor to our local airport where Jerry was from. The Stump Jumper paint job is not a WWII scheme. Jerry told me a little history about this aircraft. It was owned by a SAC commander originally. While on a flight it experienced engine trouble and had to be set down in a field of pine tree stumps. It managed to miss every stump in it's path. it had to be disassembled and carted out. Upon reassembly it received a new paint job, and the name Stump Jumper.

He are some pics of it at our airport.

Another shot, with me on the wing. Jerry was a very nice guy, who loved to show off his plane. I believe that he no longer owns it.

A little history

It was displayed at Norton AFB in San Bernadino California from 1963 as s/n 463810.

In 1972 it was resored to flying condition as "Stump Jumper" N number N63810.

In 1992 it was repainted as "Angels Playmate" N number N451BC and as it is today

Default Thanks Mike and Vince!

Kinda figured the scheme was not original to WWII see link:

Where does the "Moose" and "Candyman" fit in to all this?? They have similar schemes.

That actually is a fairly accurate scheme, as some of the European P-51Ds were in a camo finish. You have to watch this, though, as some US fighter groups actually used British paint on their aircraft, so it's entirely possible for the plane to be RAF Dark Green over RAF Light Sea Gray or mixed gray. A little research will usually take care of that and there is a LOT of info available on the Mustang.
