Default Yellow Spit Cockpit

What is the best cockpit kit for the Yellow Spit? Are there any that come finished? How do you learn to do the Instrument panel?

Thanks

Check some of these sites out:

http://www.dbalsa.com/
http://www.just-the-pits.com/

As far as learning how to build a quality panel, the best info that I have found is contained in Dave Platt's video series the Jet Set vol 2 and 3. These show how Dave built the complete cockpit for a Hawker Hunter, but the info is usable on any model.

What Bob H. said is good advice. Dave takes you through the steps that will yield excellent results.
I use styrene for my interiors parts that are metal. You can buy styrene sheet in different thicknesses at most decent hobby shops.
Instruments can be purchased on the net (although I don't have a specific URL for them) just do a search.
You'll build your instrument panel to match that of the full scale. Then the sides with their respective parts, the seat and its supporting structure and the floor. None of these are difficult to make. They just requirer some patience and persistance.
A good reference book is VERY USEFULL... so don't neglect it..
The good thing is if you dont like a part you made.. you can always make another one!..

Here is an article written about my Hurricane cockpit some while ago (featured in action on my model pilot web site www.scaleaircrewsupplies.co.uk

There are one or two drawings and some description as to how I went about the build, using all manor of bits and pieces to replicate items, so have a read.

good luck

Mark,
Thanks for the article but I can't read the jpeg. The resolution isn't there when I blow it up.

Another technique is to save the pictures on your hard drive and then open them in a viewer program. That way you can blow them up so you can read them.

THanks,
Funny I could read it when I clicked on the little arrows that pop up but couldn't read it in photoshop.

Did anyone have a preference as to the Dbalsa or the just the pits cockpits?

Tom Pierce has a web site about his SBD build. It is very complete and has a section on cockpit detailing.

Anyone have experience with the Century jet cockpit? They have a "super scale" cockpit and the price isn't bad, but no pics

Ok, looks like you saved me from that one.

How about scalercmodels.com? Their stuff looks good too.

Hi Dave, sorry , been off line - Norton gone loopy on me!![sm=angry.gif]

If you haven't been able to read them yet, email me ( [email protected] ), and I'll send them directly.

Also, have a look at this site ( www.propagteam.cz ). They do superb scale dials and instrument panels, shame you can't print some off for reference ?

Do bear in mind that proportion to pilot is sometimes more important than true scale when it comes to cockpit detail. I've seen many superb scale cockpits that make the pilot look rediculous, and vice versa, so would suggest you buy the pilot first, then use him (or her..PC and all that!) to build the cockpit around. (not a plug honestly!).

When you start, don't forget to keep posting, as it inspires us all to get out to the workshop.
