Default VQ P-39 pics

Just thought I'd share some pics of my new VQ P-39 that I recently finished building and maidened this past Monday. It's powered by an OS LA46 and despite being a warbird, I find it very forigiving and tracks beautifully. Has no bad habits on landing and will glide forever as I can attest to after a couple of deadstick landings before geting the engine set up just right. All in all a good fist low wing plane that is also a beautifuly warbird.

Looks great! Nice details. Do you have any cockpit pictures and some close ups?

miklos,

I have the same vq p-39. You are correct about the glide. I found this airplane is so streamline that it would keep right on flying past the runway. I changed to a three blade master airscrew prop and it trully improved the landing. I used a OS 40Fx in mine and mounted it side ways using a slimline pitts muffler. It all worked out well with more than enough power. I find it flys like a sport plane instead of a warbird. I will say that the camoflge scheme really makes it hard to see in the air. Heck , I even flew with the belly tank on and landed without a scratch. Just forgot to remove it and it went unnoticed. I did put slightly larger wheels on, 1/4" larger than the kit provided. I thought the clearance was really tight between the ground and the prop. I made one change to the elevators. In stead of using that split elevator rod which I could not get to work evenly, I used a single rod attached to one elevator half and put a wire brace between the two elevator halves. I just didn't want an elevon effect

I really like that P-39, thanks for the photos. I went to order one last month, only to discover they are not in production anymore I'm going to have to look for one elsewhere.

We may get a to convince VQ FACTORY to produce them again if we get enough interest! Just email [email protected] and just cast a "VOTE" to continue with the P-39 and perhaps we can pass that on and get another run of them..
I had one for a year and flew the heck out of it with an OS .61FX side mounted with a BCM pitts muffler and a 12x7 prop...
Talk about having more than enough power for short and steep take-offs!!! Sold it after a year and it is still flying here in Texas with another owners OS.61FX!![sm=thumbup.gif]
It makes a great 1st Low WIng Warbird as it is quite forgiving , inexpensive and has loads of details...

Luckily, I found one NIB for sale on E-bayy, and picked it up.

ORIGINAL: miklos

It's powered by an OS LA46
Hello Miklos, How did the plane balance out with that motor ? Did you have to add weight to the rear ?
Thanks for any info, as I'm going to be building minein the next few weeks !
