RE: ME-163
AVICOM, I have no experience with turbines. I suppose somewhere there is a small turbine you could engineer into this size Komet but will probably be alot of work. Is A GREAT flyer on electric or glow and alot cheaper than turbine power. Roy

Roy,
Any chance we could see some pictures of your motor and battery installation. I am building one of Joes 82" Komets myself foe electric power and any info you can pass on would br great. I've already converted a Bob Holman .60 size Komet to electric (Mega 45, 18 cells). These Komets are the sweetest flying warbird I've ever flown, can't wait to get the big one up next Spring. Thanks, Paul

Paul, I have not been able to do any oy the fancy online stuff yet and the engine is sealed in (how often do you need to do maintenance on an electric motor?). The AXI motor has an X mount for the motor. If you go to the glow to electric conversion forum in wattflyer and go back quite abit you'll find a thread I think by matt kirsch with pictures of the AXI in a p-40 warhawk. Basically the X frame is mounted on top of a piece of PVC pipe. I notched the PVC pipe so that the X sits in the four notches and then used long 6-32 screws that traverse through the mounting holes on the X frame , travel just outside the PVC pipe through the firewall, blind nuts and then aircraft locking nuts. The firewall has a hole in the middle and the PVC pipe has four holes on the side to allow airflow threw the engine and out. The nose cone is open 1/4 inch around behind prop to allow air flow thru. I also have additional 4 holes in firewall to allow air out to flow thru fuse over speed controller and batteries. The batteries are mounted on a plywood plate with velcro base so they don't slide and velcro straps so they don't move when inverted, The batteries are 3s 4200mah side by side on the plywood and rigged in series. The plywood is just forward of the main wing spar and traverse the upper narrow portion of the skid portion of the fuse so a few inches lower than the wing spar.. If I can get my wingman to take some pictures for me I'll post them. Roy

Roy, Thank you for the mounting tips. I have two of the motors that you use in yours (for a VQ P-61) so seeing the success you have had with yours is very encouraging. thanks, Paul
Ram-bro, you've got a very nice looking komet. I'll have to dig my log book out and see how I set mine up, but I'm sure I used the CG listed on the plan and for the control throws I'll have to check. I do remember that I had a little up trim on the elevons. It's too bad that the molds Bob Holman has for the .60 size komet are in such poor shape, when I got my last fuse from him it looked like the glass was full of veins. They were actually little indentions in the glass surface. Lots of spot putty and too much sanding got it looking good. I think if I were to do the Holman Komet over I'd have a Laser cutter cut the parts from the plan and build it from wood. Thank goodness for Joe's big 82 inch Komet. Its sweet.

RE: ME-163
Out of curiousity, does anyone make a kit version of the Komet? I'm looking for 80"+ ... Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Even a website with the plans would suffice I"m ready to try building something REALLY different for a scale warbird.

Vo"
See the earlier posts in this thread. I don't have an address (lost it) but chesk out Joe Saitta glass fuse and kit. You should be able to do a search and find his address. This is a great flying plane that sure drews a crous at a warbird meet. ....Acobra

Better yet, post the link here so everyone will have it. That's the real value of forums.
