40 size ME 109?

RE: 40 size ME 109?
KYOSHO has recently introduced a series of 46 size warbirds. Their 4th one is the ME109 and it's just hit the U.S. My LHS says they got one on the way.
I maidened my KYOSHO P40 Warhawk today. Winds were too blustery to tell much other than it's gonna be a keeper. And when I retracted the gear, it needed down trim. It came in at 5 pounds 7 ounces with an OS50 in the nose. Good airplane.
I look forward to the Me109.

Heard that www.vqwarbirds.com is going to have a .40 109 available later this year, and they put out a decent ARF, I have the T-6 and think it is worth the price, and is well built. Possibly Skyshark may have a 109 BYI, not sure. Cliff

www.skysharkrc.com does had a me 109 kit but from the looks of it......it's a build of build.
haven't owned up to the scale planes kits yet. maybe one more sport/scale and then a warbird kit.

Hi Ken:
As far as I know there are only two Me 109 models available for .40 power:
ARF: Kyosho Messerschmitt 109 E
http://www.kyosho.co.jp/web/products...hmitt40-e.html
KIT: Warbirds Replica Me 109 G
http://www.warbirdsreplica.com/
Sorry I can´t give a feedback on the company or the models as I lack experience with them. The english RCM&E magazine published test articles on some of the models and among them the Me 109 G (December 2002 issue).
Regarding Skyshark models, although excelent and quite scale accurate I am afraid they are too big for a .40 and more intended for .60 to .75 two stroke engines.
Best regards,
Jesus CardÃ*n

Hi
My friend and I for almost 20 years always flew smaller scale warbird models, 48" to 65" span(Pilot Kits, Jemco). We could never find a nice scale .40 size BF 109,F,G. So we designed a composite one.
The model currently has an OS .46 VF and a wing span of 49". Around 6lbs.
I am about to purchase a brushless motor power system for this model.

Looked at that Kyosho ME 109 and just don't think it's very close to scale
And nobody makes a spinner that'll look like the 109's early one. It was almost "square" and had a large opening for the cannon. I've been following a build thread about the Kyosho 109 and that guy cast his own. Of course, he's using electric power, so will have less centrifugal force on the spinner structure to worry about.

The model flies great. It is a bit of a challenge to take off because of the left pull due to the retractable gear located as close to the scale position as possible. Even with a bit of right thrust.
My freind flew it first and he uses the rudder right off the bat to keep it on the runway. That method seems to be the best for this airframe.
The engine is located in the cowlings oil cooler set back by an aluminum extension shaft I made. The rear exhaust has the compact J'tec "muffler" that exists out of the oil cooler rear section.
Pic is of the prototype

The actual real emergency takeoff procedure for this bird involved standing on the brakes, and the left rudder while coming up to power.
Always been a favorite but doubt I could fly one.

Scalecraft,
Your bird looks pretty nice. From what you're saying it acts like the real one. It was a very tricky plane on take off.
What I found really interesting about the full scale is the 0 degree of right thrust on engine and asymetrical airfoil for rudder to compensate.

Thanks SKNX
My engine has a slight right thrust to it. One may not be able to tell by looking. The rudder is asymetrical as the full scale, but I don't know if it helps. Maybe at high speed.
With such a small 109, with scale position gear location, you need all the help you can get. And practice.

RE: 40 size ME 109?
I'm also looking into a 40 size Me-109 or another aircraft of similar size for this holiday season. That VQ plane looks quite nice, it just has to come out in time! (easily electric convertible would be nice too)
Currently, the plane I'm most intrested in is Kyosho's ME-109, although I'd like to see a few more details on it. Also, I wish there were more 40 size models with better details and maybe some flaps once in a while. For electric modelers like myself, a 40 size aircraft is really fairly large(it would be be the largest aircraft at my field most of the time).
Just out of personal experience, the majority of pilots at my field have radios with six or more channels, but we seldom see anything larger than 40 size, and even that is rare. Flaps and retracts are also a rarity, even though most of the pilots have adequate radios for them.
Anyway, I hope that VQ ME-109 turns out good.

From what I can tell it is already out for sale at rc-Warbirds .com I do not know if they actually have the vq birds yet I still have to try to confirm this they show them all in stock. I want to buy a mig3 of the bf109 but vq warbirds is out of stock.
