Default CMP Hellcat and 5/32" Retracts

First thing this morning I placed an order on nitroplanes.com for a CMP Hellcat (70" WS) and their mechanical retracts. I tried my darnest but could not pass up the $139 price tag for this beautiful warbird. What I would like to know is if the 5/32" retracts can support this large a plane. I usually make smooth touchdowns.

Coronabob, NO I wouldnt do it!! 5/32 are just too small for this hellcat, IMO. We had a warbird fly-in today at our club and a good buddy flew his GSP Hellcat today(He even let me fly his ) and he has 3/16 fixed gear on his-powered by a SuperTigre 90 2 stroke) . If you use the 5/32 retracts you are going to spend more time repairing the gear or worse, repairing the plane due to the gear not holding up and that ending up tearing up your plane. I have 2 of these, one with century jet air retracts that is amost finished and another one new in the box. I will say you got it for a decent price. Go witha decent set of retracts or if you want to do the fixed gear option, please do yourself a favor and use 3/16 wire.
Best of luck with your hellcat- they fly very nice!!

Sierra makes a very nice set of air retracts for this plane, and those retracts will save you from pain and suffering in the long run. Personally, I wouldn't use 5/32" retracts since the plane will end up weighing at least 12 lbs. 5/32" retracts are for .40 size planes.
