Default TF Corsair & RCV 90

I remember reading somewhere where someone ruminated about having to cut the main "deck" (runs through middle of fuse at front end) in order to get the RCV back plate in place.

When that was cut, was it done just enough to slide the plate in or what? Did you reinforce the area after the plate was installed?

Cut the whole middle tab off (not just enough to slide the plate in). If it's not supporting (or supported by) the middle of the firewall, anything leftover tab is just dead weight... not much, but still.

I didn't reinforce the forward frame, but I did reinforce the entire circumference of the firwall inside the fuse. I remember epoxying short lengths of triange stock around the firewall. It held up well, even with all the vibration of a new RCV-90SP.

Good luck,
Juice

Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thanks. But with the "built up" area (for the air flow), is that (yellow) where you put that triangular stock? On top of the build-up )ie around the 5 inch circle that is the basis for the cut-down firewall area?

I'm so glad I'm catching this from you two, I did half of both, I just cut enough to get the plate in. (I completely forgot about the plate) But I'm already nose heavy, so I won't add anymore behind the firewall or take more out for structural strength. I built it up to the ply (pic I sent you) but it's not nearly as pretty like yours came out Len. Nice going

I'm still not seeing an 1 1/2" taper. Scale looks more like a 5/8" to 3/4" rounding on the front under the cowl for air. JMHO...

Anyone else currently building the TF Corsair 60?

Rollo (Chris) and I are just starting framing one. Will be using the OS FS 120 and a custom exhaust system that Kelvin at Keleo Creations is going to build to exit at the scale locations.

Thanks Paul.

Your comment about the taper. You wouldn't see it from inside the fuse. I'm not quite sure what you mean here. If you think the 1 1/4" is too much, I have to think that in my case, it's probably required as the rcv cooling is not that great (from what I've read).

BTW, I haven't finished the other half of the inside yet so there would be no 'cutting' done on the outside yet either.

Tom,

Please post photo's of the exhaust when you get it as well as when it's mounted. Should be great.

Len,
I did mine like Juice and had no problems. I did add the balsa reinforcement 360 around the firewall. You need to think about the blind nuts for the cowl [X(]

Will do. We've just started the drawings so we're probably 4-6 weeks from finished product based on Kelvin's build backlog.

Len, I think I have more pics of it in my gallery left, I took a few out last week, can't remember without looking; Keleo.

Hey I just ordered a 19 X 11 Bolly today. A 20.1" is scale. They have a 20X12 available they would cut down for me, I like to push the envelope with a weed blower, but that's pushing it too much even for me.

(Please, remember I have a RCV 120)

Len I think I'm chewing on my foot now. [:'(] I've been playing with the cowl ring and fuse now and am starting to see[sm=idea.gif] more of what you're saying.

I still don't have the front bottom half built yet, but is the cowl spaced out from the plywood or flush when you fit things?

Having the bottom on or a picture would help me see it.

Paul,
You should have 4 hardwood spacers for the cowl. All 4 are the same but on the side thats slanted in from the built in right thrust you stand the spacer up on it's long end so the cowl looks striaght.

Thanks Pete,

Now it's making more sense. The ring on the cowl isn't actually touching around it right?

Did you have to space out the RCV to clear the cowl? I've been wondering about that.

Paul,

I used a solid maple block. If I remember correctly, a 3/4" spacer on an RCV-90SP clears the cowl. You'll need less for your 120.

What Pete & Juice said. I had the dimension for the 90 extention (no help in your case) but don't remember where I put it.

Custom made standoff for the RCV 90 H9 Corsair. 3/4". I had used some wood but didn't like the looks of the wood it just looked to sloppy. So i had this mount made up for me. $20 bucks at a a machine shop.
