Default Warbird pilots

Here is a quick pic of the first Warbird pilots from ESM. They were designed by YT for ESM and will be available around December time if all goes to plan. They will come completely painted and ready to fit, and were designed to fit the 120 size ESM warbirds.

German, American and British are shown in the pic, unpainted shown as they are straight from the mould. What do you guys think?

Ian.

They do look very good. Why not offer them in an unpainted version also? I like to paint my own pilots.

My wife likes it when I buy the Scale Pilots, I usually give them to her to paint. That's one way I know how to get her involved with the Hobby. [8D] I keep wanting to hook up the "Buddy Box" but she won't have it when it comes to flying.

I guess because of her Depth Perception being poor, she's afraid of destroying a plane. Hmmm maybe I'll teach her to fly at night... then she won't see it crash, she'll only just just hear it.

hard to go past the Aces of Iron range of warbird pilots, super detailed and look sensational

I have a number of these and whilst they do require painting, if you follow the instructions is is quite easy to achieve the same result as the one pilot below.

How about a full bodied pilot with this detail?

I have a few of those Aces of Iron pilots myself. The two things I do not like about them are: 1) They look somewhat old (most WWII warbird pilots were in their early 20's, not 40's) 2) They have bushy eyebrows.

The Brit looks okay. The German and American pilots look wrong. The helmet and goggles are the problem.

yeah I know.......... bushy eyebrows and "getting a bit long in the tooth" .....I bit like myself really , but still about the best I have seen.......with some trick painting it is posible to make them look much younger......a bit like some women I know, some clever application of "war paint" can take years off a woman's life.......
The rest of the pilots around seem to look more like cartoon characters...but that is just my humble opinion

Correct me if I'm wrong... but I have over heard my wife say that there were a few Luftaffe pilots who flew in WWI and WWII. I guess that would make there ages between 30 and 45 approximately? I'll ask my wife when she wakes up this morning.

But the bushy eyebrows thing, well... some guys do have them. And if you look at some German people, they do have big teeth. My wife makes jokes all the time about it.

If they were to make the pilots with the Unibrows... then I'll just tell people that they are Italians. LOL

I'm just being funny, please don't be offended people for my bad humor.

I have looked at many A of I pilots and I do not like the painted lenses of the goggles. I just doesnt look right. I have seen several figures with the lenses filled with epoxy that look the best so far but no one , that I know of, has shown what colors work/look best under the epoxy filled lens method. This is especially true for the WW2 busts. Were tinted lenses available to pilots during WW2? All actual pictures I have seen of WW2 pilots, their goggles had clear lenses. Please correct me if I am wrong. Do any of you have pictures of A of I pilots with the epoxy filled lenses?? Or better yet... a picture of a WW2 pilot with tinted goggles!

By WW2, the goggle lenses were replaceable and came in a variety of colors (amber, green, smoked, or clear). The pilot would change the lenes according to the mission and flying conditions. I have seen people model all variants. I usually model the clear lenses. For US figures, I paint the back plain leather with a little raw umber oil in the corners for depth (same technique as explained for the WW1 guys). The plain leather makes the leather behind the google appear lighter that the rest of the flight helmet leather to model the effect the of lens light magnification inside the goggle. For German lenses, I paint the backs straight Raw Umber to give the lens the the same effect described above. If the goggle is in the down position, I use a color slightly darker than the flesh tone . Hope this helps.

Hi,

I am after a 1/5th scale US Navy pilot (WW2). Are there any other links that you can point me to?
I am after a particular scale pilot which, unfortunately, I do not recall the website I saw at last.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Reuben

Are you looking for a full bodied pilot or just a pilot bust?

oops sorry Richard...I omitted to mention the type of pilot I was after...I should have said that I was looking for a full length pilot. I remember that this pilot had the flying leather helmet and the yellow life jacket and looking a bit to the side. I wish I could have saved the photo as it would have made things easier.
Thanks Richard for pointing the omission.
Happy New Year to all.

Best wishes

Hey Y'all,

I have a 1/7 scale cockpit that I ordered with my Top Flite Corsair and need a full body WW11 navy or marine pilot to use in it. Does anyone know where I can find this size. I just bought a 1/5th scale pilot for my Top Flite Giant Corsair. There 12" tall and I need one about 8 " long or a little shorter even. I can always put a parachute under his butt if he's to short.

Please Help!!!
