Giant scale P-40 choice
The Ziroli P40 has been out for several years now and Yellow's been less than a year. Give it some time and I believe the Poll will change.
I personally have built the Ziroli P40 (glass fuse and foam wing), but have recently seen my friends Yellow P40 kit, its beautifully detailed and most of the work has been done. The size is perfect and will fit in my mid size SUV.
IMHO

I agree. I like the Ziroli P-40. I had one. I'm sure that if the poll were limited to people who've actually seen both, let alone built both, that there'd be a big difference.

Cool,
You won't be dissatisfied. Like I said, the Ziroli is a nice bird, but few here have seen them both and not commented more favorably toward the Yellow.

Yellow spit
Shaun, If you were to replace a Moki 1.8 in the Yellow spit with a gas engine which would you choose?..Any thoughts along those lines?.. I'm kinda getting tired of this Moki and the trouble I'm having starting it inverted. That's even using an onboard glow driver. I think I would like to move over to gas in the plane but I do like the neatness of the Moki.. Anyway.. any thoughts would be appreciated..... Regards BobH.

Bob,
In truth, I had about four different engines in the garage, and I chose the one with the least amount sticking out of the cowl. The other engines were a Zenoah G-38, a US 41 and a ST 3250. I never used a gasser in the Spit. I think a better guy to ask about it would be Ray Harris. He knows quite a bit more about that bird and it's do's and don'ts than I do.

RE: P-40
Hi all,
Ok, We have one in the air already, one ready for it's maiden flight, and the other waiting on final wire hook-up, control rods, etc. Go to the link at the bottom of this post to see updated construction pictures as well as a video of the maiden flight of #1.
After this weekend, all that will be left to do to all 3 is paint, canopy, pilot, and Fly!

RE: P-40 with scale prop
Btw, the neatest P-40 I ever saw was a Ziroli one with a ST4500 on a belt drive swinging a scale 3 bladed prop. Very cool. I can share more info on this drives if anyone is interested.
Thanks

RE: P-40 with scale prop
Those pics of the Yellow P-40 look good. Especially the one with the spinner on it! Too bad they molded with gelcoat. I think it would be easier to located formers and other internal items if the fuse was semi-transparent....afterall, you have to sand the fuse down for sanding before primer and paint anyways!?!
What is the price tag of the yellow kit? Can't wait to see some of these flying at local events soon!

RE: Giant scale P-40 choice
here is one kit you guys may want to consider, I have seen several of these big P40w build and they fly beautifully.
You will need to a do a lot of work as it is a bare bones kit of glass fuz and foam cores plus a few formers
cheers

RE: P-40 with scale prop
Several years after your post but................
My Ziroli P40 plans are on their way to me now, and I have a Super Tigre 4500 waiting for a 'plane.
So if you still have the details on the belt drive and the 3 bladed prop that would be great. Also any information on the silencing arrangements would be most helpful.
