Default Taylor Spitfire........the finish is near!

Finally, getting closer. 83" Taylor Spitfire, 1.80 Moki, Awsume retracts from Lenny. Fuse is ready for sanding, primer. Finishing up tail feathers. Wing is all sheated. Fitting retract mounting blocks, than ready for glass this weekend, primer next weekend (hopefully) A few minor things on fuse, than primer and paint.
Man am I ready. Paint pics, hopefully in 4-6 weeks. PR blue, invasion stripes, similar to Spitfire down in Chino.

Default Awesome!

Todd,

Looking very nice! That eliptical wing really is a beauty. I cannot wait to get mine fixed so we can do some sorties!

thanks Vic, the fuse aint so bad either
Joel and I plan on coming down in a couple of weeks.
I'll let you know when we are coming so we can catch
up with you guys at the Basin. Its getting closer to finish
which is really cool. Than I can gt back to the P47! It is framed
up, and fuse all planked and sanded, wings need sheeted.
Man, too many projects, especially with 2 other Taylor plans/planes waiting in the "wings"

Here is a pic of my 96 inch spitfire 62 cc Zenoah, Fibre glass fuz and foam core wings, Custom 5/8 dia oil damped retractsready for our Warbird races in April.

Your Spitfire is looking great. Keep up the good work it will be worth it in the end.

P.S mine is a ***** cat to fly. Should have built it years ago.

Todd:

It looks great. Can't wait to see it completed. Let's see, now you have to finish the P-47. Then, build a Typhoon and a Hellcat. Life is tough

Now you are going to have to plan a trip up here to the Northwest so we can fly together.

Talk to you later buddie.

Nice work....I'm finishing my 1/5 scale Mark I Spitfire (88 inch) and was wondering what you're doing about your tailwheel....does anybody on the list make these?

Burl, just finished mounting retracts from Lenny in my Pica 1/5 version myself. You're right, he's the man for the gear in the 1/5 Spit, they're great. Have to add sheeting to bottom wing, mount tail, add cockpit and pilot and sand, sand, sand before rivets, panels and finish. It's a race to see what I finish first, TF giant F4U or this one. Either way, first time to the field gets both planes with for first flights! My power is an ST3000 for the Spit.

Does Lenny do the scale non-retractable tailwheel for the early Mk Spits?...This is my third 1/5 scale Spitfire....my first was powered with a ST 2500...way too underpowered...second was with a Moki 1.8....perfect at 28 pounds and the third is with a 3W 50 which will be too much but I'll run a 3 blade to slow it down....hoping to find a good tailwheel so I don't have to build one.......

Yes he is working up a fixed gear for the early Spit's. I am doing mine as a MKIX. He will be done sometime soon?
You say you flew a Spit with the Moki 1.80 at 28 pounds?!
Man that makes me feel good, I was kind of worried that mine will come in at 18-19 lbs.!

Thanks for all props so far.

will do Sean, glad you found the post. I was just checking your email, and ready to fire of a new letter to you as to its whereabouts, but I see you already have found it. You will really like Lenny's gear, they are really smooth. I have shot many digital pics that I'll go through for you.

thanks Chad, I was kind of hoping you and Sean would start yours about the same time I started mine, so I could learn from my mistakes (which I did, and did a few things over). Being my first scale plans/plane, no instructions allowed me to think things through. I learned about fiberglass, and how it REALLY needs to be cleaned for epoxy to stick
I have been frustrated at times, but still keep going. I swore I would never build one again, now I have 3 other Taylor's waiting in the wings, the P47 of course alreayd started.
Good luck with yours Chad, and Sean, I look forward to seeing your progress as well.
