What scale? Try contacting Mike Johnson, the sculptor of those Aces of Iron pilots. He is a spectacular painter, but it might cost you an arm and a leg.

P-47 D PILOT,
I would paint him for you, I use different techniques than some others, but feel sure you would be pleased.
If not you would owe nothing!
I will be glad to send you a sample of my work if your interested.
Cheers,
LaKid

Here are some P-51 pilots that Mike Johnson, the master himself, painted for me:

I have yet to come across a painted pilot that can rival these.

Excellent work. I like to paint pilots but cannot achieve that level of perfection.

Yes, you can use acrylics on these pilots. In fact, acrylics are recommended since they don't tend to crack.

Hi Richard....

I noticed that the pilots have the 8th airforce patch on the flight jacket and the serial numbers on the mae wests... were they painted also?

The patches and the serial numbers were printed on decal paper and carefully applied on. I used the same technique when I did my P-40 pilot:

Hi Richard:
May I ask what he does charge? I might have to use my Yoda dollars

Greg Pierson does a good job of painting these pilots. He will have a few samples at Bomber Field all this week. You would need to cantact him for a quote.

Why do the Aces of Iron pilots look to be such old guys? Shouldn't thes pilot's look 20-30 yrs.old? That said, they're are certainly the most realistic/natural looking pilot busts going.

I made the same comments to the original sculptor of these AOI pilots a while back. Yep, these pilots look like they are in their mid 40's with bushy eyebrows.
