Looks like they are reintroducing the Big P-51. I like this color scheme much better than the other one.

Look's like they added 3in to the wing and fixed that gap on the top of the flap's,Fixed the BAD retract rail's also.

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Woo Hoo! I just pre-ordered mine. Let's hope it arrives before Thanksgiving so I'll have time to work on it.
Was going for the P-47, but this one will require less work to get it where I want it. Plan is for Glamorous Glen with an FPE 2.4.
What are you guys going with?

they got smart and increased the wingspan to 80 inches. the retracts look like their p47 retracts- no mustang offset struts. can anyone tell if the tail feathers are airfoil shaped? is the rudder sheeted?
its curious- they only rate it to 26cc engines- i'll bet very few put that small a gasser in them. you probably need to plan to reinforce the firewall.

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Now I'm having second thoughts. Reading the manual, unlike the P-47, it's a one-piece wing. Integrating my FPE 2.4 may present more of a challenge than it would on the P-47. And the pylons are too small to easily add bomb-drop paraphernalia, whereas on the P-47 it's a simple mod.

I wonder if the new wing will fit the old fuse? Probably not. I would think the wing saddle was made longer by the 1/4in to fit the new wing.
Can't say about the new one but the old one the rudder is not sheeted and the stab is airfoiled shape.

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
having bought the P-47, I am impressed with Hangar9 palanes. I honestly think a guy could build the giant P-47 in a long weekend. Really, there's nothing to it. As far as scale looks, well, it looks pretty damn good to me. The quality and scale outline are exactly what you pay for. No more, no less. I like them
The Mustang looks way better than the first go round and if it comes with the retracts that came with the P-47 its a hit.
I like what they are doing.
If they came out with a giant Corsair, I'd buy it.
Big planes are a pain to get to the field but are so much easier to work on and fly nicer (or at least seems that way to me).

I have to handed to them , 1)they constantly reinvent themselves and try to better there products
2)they have done more to get newbees includeing me into warbirds because there 60/90 size birds fly like sport planes
3)they are reasonable in cost and friendly customer servace
Overall a great company , I hope they introduce a larger P40 and Corsair

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Why is the increase in wingspan out of proportion with the increase in length? Were the proportions of the original one off? I wasn't really contemplating purchasing one, but the fact that the wing is scaled up with a larger percentage as the fuselage just struck me as a bit strange.

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Well its about time! Looking through the pics it looks like the same airplane as the discontinued model but stretched a bit and (hopefully) with all the problems resolved. My orginal 150 P-51 is/was an outstanding flyer once I got all the quirks are worked out- this new one should be really nice.

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Having now looked long and hard at the manual and compared the dimensions of the FA-220 (shown in the manual) to my FPE 2.4, I've decided to forego the Mustang and go back to my plan to do a P-47.
The Mustang still looks like a great kit, and I'm sure it will be popular, but the Jug just hold more appeal for me right now. My engine will fit better, and I really prefer two-piece wings for models this big.

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Why do they bother re-releasing the same plane, especially in a world crowded with Mustangs ? How about something new ?

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
I would guess they originally discontinued it because of the odd wing span and WEAK landing gear rail's.
I have the original. The wingspan did not bother me at all. After fixing the retracts with new rail's and Robart gear, making it a standoff "B" I can tell ya,,,, this IS the best flying mustang your ever gonna fly,It is the easiest to land i have ever seen. . For being sport scale it's size and presence in the air will draw a crowd to watch[8D]. Manufactures like mustangs,,They will always be popular as everyone has to have one at sometime or other. True they need to release a different big one,,,Myself im waiting for a corsair as well as a buddy i fly with. Until then though this one goes to the field every time i go now

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
Just saw the thread and am very excited to see this bird once again in action. I was wondering what you guys recommend with respect to the possible engine size for this aircraft. I have a Zen 26 in the garage waiting for a plane and was wondering what your comments or suggestions might be to this???
Would really appreciate the help!!!

Heck, if it had to be another mustang, they could have at least made it the good looking one...the P-51B or P-51C!!!![sm=wink_smile.gif]

RE: NEW (IMPROVED?) Hanger 9 P-51 1.50
The only thing that I could find suspect is the recommended elevator rates. Unless they made some other changes to compensate they still have the insanely high 5/8" low and 3/4" high rates listed on the H9 website.
