RE: H9 Spitfire Build
Doug,
It sounds as though you have done your research. All the changes you mentioned are recommended by those on this thread. There are difference of opinions on the retracts to use. Some opt for the Spring Air and others the Robarts. Both are good gear. When you decide on the exhaust arrangement, I have a 90 degree adapter to fit your OS 91.

RE: H9 Spitfire Build
Guys if you can help solve a problem here. I have been scratching my head on this one and can't quite figure it out. On the plane i have....
RCV 91CD
Kelo exhaust
MAS prop 14x6 might go to a 14x8 Don't know still breaking in the engine.
Tru turn spinner
and the required spinner ( 2) adapters from Tru turn.
What i can't figure out is the arrangement of the required two adapters for the spinner. In this order i have spinner back plate, prop, prop washer, prop nut ( from RCV ) and then the TT adapter. how do i get the second adapter to fit in. Because when i install the spinner socket head cap screw it will not turn in far enough to secure the spinner and the spinner is still loose.
On a second note the Kelo exhaust is very cool. And I sprayed the airframe with flat clear and made the plane look 100 times better. Also used Robart's 533 95degree retracts yet to install, and the H9 150 size oleo legs. But now the stock wheels will not fit on the axle housing of the Oleo struts without the sidewall of the tire rubbing against the Oleo strut.

RE: H9 Spitfire Build
Ok i just checked the Tru turn website and something fishy is going on here. I see where the problem is they shipped two of the same adapters for the RCV 91cd. One adapter was in a mislabled bag from Tru turn. Also the webpage has been changed to reflect this. Its a easy fix just need to go back to my LHS and re order the correct one. But i'm still stumped on the landing gear issue.

RE: H9 Spitfire Build
Anyone here have trouble with the flap mechanism?
My servo was constanly buzzing at all extremes due to the slight twist in the pushrods and the "seemingly" DIY nature of the linkage. My Z Bend wasn't that great and so I tried to bend it some more only for the rod to snap! I have made another one up easy enough using some M2 rod binded together with cotton then saturated in CA. I am thinking of using a ball link this time rather than a z bend....hopefully this will also help get rid of the constant humming from the servo too?

Hello Kenbil
You must reinforce the firewall of the Spitfire and the best way to do this is to "Paint" the firewall all over with epoxy both inside and out and the joining of the fisulage up to 1 inch inside. This will fuel proof the firewall and make the whole thing stronger. It is also a good thing to cover all the epoxy with 3/4 oz fiberglass wich will add extra strenght to the firewall.
For the cowl, reinforcing it is certainely a good thing but if "needs be" I elect to change it if it become damaged. Mine is OK after over 100 flights.
For cutting with the Keleo exhaust here is what I did. My only major mistake on that one, was a saito 100 should have been a 125... I matured since.
BTW you should also consider a cowl flap for proper cooling, the pic speak for themselves.

RE: H9 Spitfire Build
Just found this thread recently and I want to know if any of you have experience the peculiar "hopping about" from one main gear to the other on taxi, or landing. I've stumped the local "experts" at the field. Plane flies well with a Saito 100 and a 14X10 APC prop. Sounds great, balance perfectely for inverted flight, but landing are a source of embarrassment as even the smoothest touchdowns and it looks like it's galloping along on the landing.
TIA

Bruce try landing with the flaps on, but I agree it is hard to get a good landing all the time, try fitting air retracts as described further back, that has helped mine plus I rotated mine, by shimming them more forward.

Thanks Lee, but even taxiing along gets it doing the "bunny hop" . I found that since I've got the flaps on my spektrum DX7 set for the two position switch, that I have two position flaps. Positon 1 is best for landing and 2 is great for takeoffs. But that ground handling thing, oy, I get teased mercilessly about having one of Jerry's Kids for a runway model.......
Like the idea of the air retracts, but that will have to wait till another day. Wife insists the bathroom gets fixed first.........$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

kenbill:
to get a good fit with the celeo exhaust you need to make two templates out of carboard and tape them to the fuselage.with the cowl off you mark and cut where the exhaust should be.
After this is is done you take the exhaust of the engine, mount the cowl and transfer the cutout from the carboard to it.It is a bit time consuming but the fit will be perfect.

I can understand your frustration with your airplane but I do take offense by compairing it to Jerry's Kids. I happen to be a father of one of Jerry's Kids.

RE: H9 Spitfire Build
I've almost finished my H9 Spit with a saito 125. Should it be difficult to fly this plane? I have had a Kyosho Calmato trainer, calmato sport, H9 mustang PTS. But no experience with a spitfire...

RCV 91cd ( waited for 8 wks for delivery ( sic ) thanks in part to Kondo Model products in Thunder Bay, should just have ordered it through RCV in the first place. )
Kelo exhaust. ( waited about 3 wks but was worth it and a very good guy to deal with. The exhaust is killer )
Robart 95 degree gear and H9 legs. Ugh! i'm thinking i'm going have problems getting the 95 degree mounted should have went with the 90 or 85 degree.
Sprayed flat clear over the airframe. 150% way better looking now. Got rid of the shiny finish.
Oil collection tank from Great Hobbies. That was an easy install.
Now i'm working on system to secure the canopy to make it removable. I have been scratching me head over this for few days now. I'm going to use a socket head cap screw and blind nut at the back of the canopy but i'm not sure how to hold down the front of the canopy.
