Hey x3,

I just finished my P-47 that I flew in Top Gun. I built the exact same cockpit. You don't have a problem. Tell me the exact length and I can tell you where to shave off. I'll get you some pictures soon.

Hey PJ,
I watched your thread. That is an unbelievable accomplishment in such a short time! I will try and post some pics late tonight with the sides of the cockpit kit held up beside the formers.
Thanks,
x3

Ya, I'm slow.... Here is the pic showing that the sides of the cockpit will not fit between the two formers. Should I just cut off the front of the cockpit sides????

Wow, that cockpit is a little small. What I would do is cut right in front of the radio box. That way the radio box will pretty much set lush up on the front former in your cockpit. It should still look really good.

Sorry,
I have not been building lately and will probably not continue until October. I run a boat propeller repair shop. We are really busy now that it is the middle of the boating season. Things will slow down after Labor Day in the repair shop. By October, I'll be back to a few hours of plane building every night.

I don't have any pics to post yet, but the fuse is planked. It still needs to be sanded and looks pretty rough. I have started back on the wing. The leading and trailing edges are on the right wing half. Once I get them on the left, I'll plank the top of the wing. The horizontal and vertical stab are also on the fuse. It's starting to look like a plane. I'll be sending the Q-100 to Ralph at rc Ignitions to convert it over to electronic ignition.

Those who have build this plane, what incidence is your horizontal stab set to?

Thanks,
X3

Update:
The motor has been sent to Ralph for conversion and should be back any time. One half of the top of the wing is sheeted.
Happy Thanksgiving,

I'm still working on it - slowly. The tail feathers are hinged and I'm going to hinge the arelons and flaps next. I've ran the motor several times on a test stand. Everything is sheeted and rough sanded. I could start filling and sanding any time, but i want to get the rest of the hinges done first. It takes a lot of thinking and fixturing to get the Robart hinges right on a plane like this where the hinges don't go on the centerline of the wing. After the hinging is done, I might start working on the gear doors. I laid some fiberglass up on the wing so I have the blank fiberglass doors ready to cut out and finish.
Thanks,
X3

Holy Crap - If anyone else wants to give away one of these, PM me. I'll pay shipping! Seriously, John & Tom post any pics you have of the construction on your plane. I need motivation to get this thing done and done right. I think that i have decided to make this a scaled out plane. Why not - I'll have three or four years in construction. Might as well spend a few more monthe on the details. If I can figure out how to post a link of a movie, I'll put a clip of the Q-100 running on here. I probably won't get much building time between now and September or October.
Thanks,
X3

My buddy started building the Nosen Jug and the Mustang back in the mid 80's and still hasn't finished. They are both HUGE! The retracts are a work of art. I keep telling him to finish both giants, but he keeps getting off track on other builds. Nosen also made a giant Corsair back then that was very impressive.

My name is Marty. I have a boat propeller repair shop that I own and work at part time. In the spring summer and fall, I'm busy with the shop and can't find time to get into building. That's why this plane is taking so long to build!
Thanks,
X3
