Default Construction Begins!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my kit arrived today and i swear he cut down an entire rain forest to get enough wood!! Tomorrow I move my good Computer to the shop so that I dont have any webcam problems this time and move the ever necessary tv to the shop too. If all goes well I should be online tomorrow late afternoon live from the shop cam.

Since this Hurricane will be 1/3.5 scale I have been making sure I have enough room to build. So far everything looks good as the wingspan is only 138" the same size as the Don Smith B-17 which I had plenty of room on my 3 ft x 16 ft table to build. Th thing that amazed me is the fuse. It is one thing to enlarge the plans and drawe them up on a computer but when your kit arrives and you see the size of the fuse formers I began to wonder if I had room to build the FUSE!!! The Firewall alone is 15 1/2" x 11 1/2" now just think they go bigger from that in places. I just overlayed balsa sheet sized rectangles over my wing to get a guestimate on the amount of sheeting I will need. I cam up with 36 sheets of 3/32" x 6" x 36" to sheet the wings can you say Balsa forest hehehe if anyone has a spare balsa tree or two I am gonna need it along with some spruce trees. Basically just for the stringers on the fuse I will need 28 3/16" x 3/8" x 8ft stringers. So that should give you an idea of the size of this massive beasty. so basically 56 48" stringers.

Stay Tuned for Updates as i get organized I will use this thread to notify of my progress and will post a few pics of some of the parts tomorrow. My friend Jesse did his usual Fabulous Job of Laser cutting. Also if you have Yahoo messenger you can add my nick ProfLooney and tune into my Streaming webcam and give me a hollar sometime. if you dont have messenger you can acess cam from my website http://home.mchsi.com/~jahuntley/ but picture is a lot smaller and dont have the chat option.

Joe It looks like a typical small plane for you. The parts look great ( Typical work from Jesse) The Cam Is gonna be great to watch it go together. We'll get to see your building methods and another piece of art hit the air . With the website updates and video it will be a learning experience. I wish I could be there.

Default pics

My worker worked so hard he didnt even finish his beer before bed but i promised him I would post a couple pics for him. I went through my parts tonight taking stock of everything and I found a few pieces missing. Jesse said tues he would cut them and get them right out. I went mback to my vectors and i guess i was in such a hurry I forgot to duplicate some parts so i guess i messed my own self up. Tomorrow night I will start Laminating and joining parts together and figure out what to do first. I will also be putting up pics on my site tonight showing the kit so that those who dont know what a short kit is can see pics and what all it includes.

Default wing

I laid up the wing tonight. Have to measure and get my washout jig made which I will work on tomorrow. since i screwed up and have to wait for some parts I didnt duplicate the next couple days will go slower til I get them in. What I will be doing is to make my washout jig, research for trim tab on rudder and possibly build that, and check all my research to make sure I dont have to build something into the frameing at this point and try to figure out how my scale hinges are gonna be. I like to be forced to slow down like this so that i do my research and get it right now rather than screw up and have to redo which i somethimes have a habit of doing because i like to frame up fast so I can get to the fun stuff of detailing hehe. so if ya dont see too much action on the cam in the next couple days just check back now and again.

Default Stuka

I been out of work all year due to an accident and so stuka on hold as 4 bucks in bank dont go far. I got invited this spring to a scale masters qualifier and got a bunch of guys offering to sponsor my building a plane like wood, graphics, glue , possibly retracts so I building this while waiting for settlement. trying to attend the qualifier in Kansas City in june. Tomorrow is court date for Workmans comp and as soon as that money comes in I will be back to work on stuka also. So for now I have a kit and wood that was Generously donated to me from Jesse at laserlizard.com and That gives me something I can work with.

I posted a lot of pics on my site last night you might want to check out.

Default Construction

Well Guys I hoped to get started last night but had to finish the cad work. Today went to hobby shop to get some spruce and they said they only carry a couple small stuff so went to lowes and bought me a 1x10x10 and tomorrow will be running to dads wood shop and gonna plane it down and make my 3/8 x 1/2 crutch pieces i need and also the 3/16 x 3/8 stringers I need so I can start the fuse hopefully tomorrow night. I thought it would be best to rip my own from 10 ft material so I dont have any splices on my stringers. Unfortunately the wood has some knots in it as i couldnt find any clean wood but should get enough to run without any splices. Check back tomorrow evening or monday to see how it is going will also get webcam back online.
