Aaaarg - OS 91 is far too big, I have to use the Os 70 and I think I will then come out wiht a weight of 3 Kg overall

My wife bought me this plane for my Valentines present and I have to say I have had a LOT of fun with this one.

I got the plane end of last week and have been working on it since then. Very well done plane. Some hardware I decided to change out, personal preference. But all else is well done and well made.

So far I am using Sullivan metal control horns, which look like they belong on this plane. Ball links for rod connectors, except on rudder. Remote glow ignitor with nipple inside one of the fuel fill markings. Switch and fuel fill on top of plane inside black paint and paint balck to blend in. Inverted mount with sports pitts muffler powered by a TT Pro 46 wth McCoy 59 plug. Loads of power and nice sound, including gurgle on throttle down. Can't wait to fly it.

I have enjoyed doing little scale things. First warbird and enjoying it. Pilot has a seat back. Drop tanks. Guns on wings. Exhaust stacks on muffler system. Makes you want to keep going an add some othet stuff. I love it. Maybe some airbrushing for exhaust marks on fuse?

I will look at the other planes also. This one is nice.

Updated word of advice on this little Stang. The front wing hold-down plate is a completely seperate piece of wood. It is glued from the factory behind the front bulkhead. I went to put the wing on yesterday at the field and it popped out of it's position and onto the fuel tank. No flying that plane of course. It never gave any sign of being loose. It just fell out.
I epoxied it back in place using dowl rods to secure it and then a drop or two of ca around the rod inserts to hold it in place overnight.
Might be worth your while checking this little flaw in design CMP 50 sized owners.

Hello, fellow CMP P51 Mustang owners. I'm in a bit of a pinch and was wondering if one of you could help me out. I just got my Stang from UPS today, ordered from Giant Scale Planes, and the bleeping thing didn't come with a manual. It's a fantastic looking kit, if not a bit heavy, but I'm really not in the mood to "wing it" as it were on this, especially given how much cash I'm putting into the electric conversion.

So, (getting down on my knees in a begging posture), is there a chance anybody here might still have their manual who could scan it and send me some decent resolution jpegs? Giant Scale Planes hasn't responded to any of my emails, and I'm doubtful I'll get help from them any time soon.

I finally get a plane and the time to build it. . . grr, I could use some help!

Todd

I got your back on this one Todd. Will email them to you. although there isn't much in these CMP manuals really. Much is just general rc building/assembling knowlage and a lot of modification.

Update: 11:48pm

Scanned manual for ya. 1220x1704 Jpeg form. Need your email address.

Now that's service!

Seriously, I love the online RC community! Thanks a ton Sturtz! I can't wait to get this bird in the air. Hopefully my choice of components will yield positive results. Here's my setup

HXT 50-55B 600kv motor from United Hobbies
HXT 6S (2 x 3s) 2200 mah batteries (I don't mind short flight times in exchange for great performance and short take-offs & landings. I'll probably only get 5 minute flights.
HXT 60 ESC & Ubec
12x8 Master Airscrew 3-blade prop (though the spinner on this thing is so huge that it's really only a 10x8 prop, right?
Undecided on servos, would appreciate suggestions.

Where are you guys getting pilots for your planes? I'm having a hard time finding any that look good.

Todd

One last tip. Don't use the supplied tires. Took it out last Sunday and on it's first landing the tire broke in half like slicing a bagel.
Found some DuBro's in my junk box and opened the wells a bit more.

I have the 140 sized P-51 ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_55...tm.htm#5509593 ) and it didn't come with the manual either. I emailed Nitroplanes and they sent me a copy of the exploded view drawing, but no manual (the P-40 has a nice step by step manual). Can you please email me the one you have too. I konw they are different planes, but would like to see what your instructions say.

Thanks,
Tim

Default RE: CMP P51 Mustang -50

I finally got around to working on my CMP P51. I had a few things come up (other planes) that derailed me. I finally finished putting in a retractable tail wheel (it looks sweet), but it was a total pain in the rear to do. It required redesigning all of the tail linkages and routing them with cables down the sides of the plane, since the tailwheel mount and assembly would be in the way of the original linkages. At first I was considering skipping that mod, then I realized that I was missing a bag of parts and most of the stuff I needed wasn't even in my kit. That was the motivation I needed to just move ahead with the project.

I've been looking at these fuel tanks and wondering if there might be a way to make them functional so I could do some target practice with them. Have any of you made the fuel tanks droppable, and if so, how?

Also, did any of you have problems with the spinner being horribly out of balance? When I spin up the motor without the spinner cone on, it runs smooth all the way up to WOT, but when I put the nose cone on, the thing vibrates so bad it feels like it's going to literally explode. I can't figure out how to balance the stupid thing, and the size is so odd that I can't find an affordable spinner to replace it with. The only one I've found is by Tru Turn, and they want $50 for it. That's almost half of what my plane cost for Pete's sake.

Any advice on how to balance it would be appreciated. I have a prop balancer that I bought from Tower, but I can't figure out how to do it.

And are those of you with this plane still flying it and enjoying it?

Cheers!

Thanks!

PM your email address and I'll send it to you. I have the 140-sized P-51, which doesn't come with a manual. I mentioned this on another post and someone sent me the manual for the 50-sized plane to use as a guide.

Tim

Pat,

Same thing happened to me. Stan was good enough to send me his plans, so I'm gonna "play it forward" (for you and any other builders to come) by posting the plans here.

I've had mine for over a year and still haven't finished it. Too many issues with the silly thing. I've built 7 planes since I bought the P51.

Cheers,

Todd
