Cockpit kit
Bill,
There is a much cheaper way and of better quality than that plastic stuff that will not stay together. BUILD IT YOURSELF! Light ply, balsa, a trip to the local Micheals or craft store will give you all the stuff you need. There are all kind of little jewels waiting there for you to pick up. Get those pics of the cockpit and use your imagination at the store. It all comes out looking better than you would believe.

P38 cockpit kit?
At least this kit will give me a starting base (idea). is there a source of good close up pics of the cockpits. I am also trying to find close ups of the turbo chargers to make my own there also.

I have also found in the past that a large plastic model of your subject can give you some ideas for making the cockpit tub. I agree with Carey, the most satisfying way is to build it yourself. I like to divide the cockpit up into a number of subassemblies, ie. instrument panel, seat, left side, right side, floor, etc. and focus on that part. Once all your subassemblies are created you can install them in your a/c. Besides being easy to work on this way, it also makes the project less overwhelming. Your local hobby store should carry Plasti-strut or similar styrene sheet and molded shapes.

You might take a look at the Dynamic Balsa site. There are pictures of the cockpit kits they sell for the Ziroli and Yellow Aircraft P-38's. These may help you get some ideas.
