Got my Balsa USA Nieuport 28 finished and shall be posting pics shortly. Basically a six-month project, as I completed several 'honey-do's' throughout the summer.

No matter how weight-conscience I try to be in building R/C models, I always seem to approach that critical weight. Of course all the scale 'goodies' didn't help.
She weighs 16 lbs. dry; however, I added 6 oz. of lead shot to the cowling to achieve the balance point indicated on the plans.
R/C Report's example weighed @ 18.25 lbs. and flew very well, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The N-28 flies great! It has a G-23 in it. Although a G-26 would be better for windy days. No bad tendancies at all.

What wing incidence have you put ? And for the stabiliser ?
Is-it the same as the plan ?

Thanks

On this one, build as per the plans and you'll be just fine.

I made the wing incidence according to the plans, but I raised the LE of the horizontal stab about 1/8" to increase the incidence of the tail.

Hi

Thank you for your reply

If I understand correctly: You leave the wings incidence as is done on the plane and you lower the rear stabilizer for the aircraft flies with the high tail.

That offers this constructor you think it good?

He put 1.55°.

Thanks
Arnaud

Approximately 2 degrees right and 2 degrees down should work.

I've planned to put a moki 180 so it has a lot of torque 2 degrees right will be good
But 2 degree down seems to be too much ???
Your plane has 2 degree down and he don't go down when you put gas ?

Thanks very much for so valuable informations.

My N-28 has an OPS Maxi 30 and it flys very nice with a little downthrust.

Default BUSA 1/4 Nieuport.

I see you have your 'N' and cabane struts done. Did you carefully check the incidence levels? Initially I did not, as instructed at the beginning of the manual - BIG mistake.
I purchased two incidence meters (laser and needle-type) and spent over 20 hours with the alignments, fabricating new struts and basically confirming everything is true.
With the fuselage absolutely level, my initial readings were 3 degrees positive on the lower and 3.5 on the upper. Spec's call for 0 degrees lower and 1.5 - 2 degrees upper. In addition, the mounting deck for the horizontal platform measured 1 degree Negative!
So, I literally discarded the N-struts and built new ones with 5/32" music wire and brass tangs. To correct the cabanes, I simply shimmed them with ply - 1/8" aft and 1/32" fwd.
The fuselage required 1/8" removed from the rear saddle.
The horizontal stab deck required a tapered 1/8" shim (fwd.) to give me exactly 1.75 degrees of positive incidence on the H-stab. Measurements are now exactly as plans indicate, except for the positive incidence in the H-stab.

So, how much time do you have invested? What is your target weight with the electric power system? I'm shooting for 15.5-16 lbs. with that Saito, SolarTex, latex paint.

This week, I'll be cutting the ailerons out, hinging and installing the wing servo trays.

NICK
I realize this is a very old tread. However. I just completed and maidened my Nieuport. As did Nick. I found the build per plans to be confusing. I liked the incidences called out on the plans footnotes ,i.e lower wing and stab at 0 degrees and top wing at 1.5 positive. However the build didnt come close ! I determined that the designer must have drawn the plans using incidences measured from the flat bottoms. I always thought the angles should be measured through the center of the airfoil as is done using a robart incidence meter. After completing the build , i ended up cutting off the tail feathers and resetting the stab to be 0 degrees vs the lower wing using the robart meter. Then, i set the Top wing at plus 1 degree and shimmed the motor mount for 2 degrees down and right. The airplane flies nicely and trims out with flight surfaces near neutral. Power is G26. Cg set per the plans. Weight is 15 lbs dry. flies great. But....

I am very unhappy with the sound and will be replacing the G26 with an OS 160 4 stroke twin .
