Not bad at all.
But why do they insist on using small wheels and shiny covering?!
Still, I'm glad to see they put flaps on it. And very nice gear doors

Sweet!!!
I actually wish it were a kit I could build, but this will do.
I am thinking I may have a new warbird racer before the year is up.
I wonder how much beefing up will be needed for a YS 1.10.
Domo aregato Kyosho.
BANZAI!!!

The Ki-61 has been one of my favorites for a long time too.
The span is about 55" if my guess is right? (1405mm = 55.314)
Where can you get Kyosho airplanes here in the U.S.? Do you have to deal direct with Kyosho America?
The Ki-61 doesn't show up on that site yet.
I wish they would have done it in the "Wave Mirror" scheme...but perhaps with some careful airbrush work and some silver paint?

Well,
I just looked at the Kyosho P-40 in RC Country Hobbies in Sacramento.
If the P-40 is any indication of the KI-61s quality, then the Tony will make a good candidate for beefing up for a warbird racer IMO.
And the price of the P-40 was fair IMO at $150.00 US.
I hope they get that Tony out soon.

Just a bit off on the profile, not nit-picking but it looks a bit swollen compared to the real deal. Canopy is way off. This is also one of my favorite Japanese fighters, maybe some of our more true to scale manufacturers will do this one justice. KMP, you looking? Maybe if they had added the cockpit bracing it would look better?

Wow! Not too shabby.
Many years ago I had the Pilot (kit)25 size Hien and it was a great flier. Didn't have retracts on it though. I just may have to get one. I 've already got the engine for it. A shame about the canopy though.

I should have said "an" engine. I've a number of four-strokes from .50 to .70 size. I would have to get the plane before I would make my decision as to which one to put in.

RE: Kyosho Ki-61 Hein
I have flown this model and it flys very well. If I were to do it over again, I would replace the CA hinges with aftermarket ones, as the supplied ones are a bit stiff. I am flying it with a well broken in OS 46AX with a 10-6 APC prop. Make sure you use an exaust diverter to direct the goo over the top of the wing. I filled the wheel well with gunk on the first flight with the exaust in the down position. I am in the process of changing the angle of the landing gear to about 6 degrees forward. It is a bit sensitive with the gear in the stock position for take-off. In the air the plane flys very scale like. Landing is good with flaps up or down, but a very different approach is required depending on flap use. Without flaps it lands like a warbird without flaps, keep the speed up and "fly" it all the way down. With the flaps extended, it slows down A LOT! Keep the nose down and it is very stable. I am satisfied with the flight performance of this plane. The cowl that comes with this plane is great and has the right thrust built in to it with no trimming needed. The green covering tends to wrinkle and I have not had too much luck in getting the wrinkles out. I did replace the spinner without ever trying the stock spinner. I've had better luck with "Name Brand" spinners in the past with ARF's, so I took no chance. Stock may be fine, but I didn't want to chance it. The flap servo is a HITEC digital that is programmed to @ 2 seconds for full travel. I didn't want the flaps to slam down when activated. I was impressed with the retract gear. Much better than I expected as stock from an ARF. I did have to pull the wheel well covers out and sand a little where the gear push rods rubbed on the ribs, but not too much. I would recommend this plane to those with warbird type experience. It does not have the tip stall tendancies of a lot of warbirds. Mine weighs 6.2 pounds dry. I may just have to buy another one and re-cover it and paint it in another scheme. One thing about the push rods, they are hard steel, and do not like to be bent as shown in the instructions for the servo ends. Enjoy the plane, I do.

VF1690PSO,
Thanks for your report on this plane. I'm anxious to start mine, but am concerned about the retracts on our grass field. Please keep us posted on your landing gear mods---with pics, maybe?

One of these may be a good match for an OS.55 I have. I like my .40 size warbirds and tend to get a lot of use out of them. With all of the great color schemes available for the Hein, you think they could have done a bit better. The Ki-61 is my favorite plane, as evidenced by all the work I put in making my 86" version.

The Hobbico 60size Sukhoi uses one layer of LITEPLY for the forward wing hold down bulkhead. It started failing on the first outing. The wing uses two layers of liteply for the tongue that fit into that bulkhead. They failed after the bulkhead was doubled with 5ply. Neither failure was catastrophic. But the wing tongue would have been had I not noticed the flight trim had started to change.
