RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Thank you ANDREW_S for the compliment. After I retired I went NUTS! A fellow club member took me under his wing and taught me how to build "the old school way". Show once then sit back and watch me do it. I fell in love with building but I just couldn't help working with some ARF's as well. Especially the YT, ESM planes that showed up on the market. I really like to detail and put my own twist on things and both methods give me the opportunity to do that as well. Will post pictures of the Stuka when I mount the 28cc on her and some after I get her together with the cannons mounted. Almost finished with the ME-109 then the Stuka. Hope to be done by the time my Fairy Swordfish gets here in late Feb. Will post some pictures of her to. Have a Happy New Year to you and yours! Tony.

ANDREW_S, I forgot to mention...you are really going to like what you see when you get your Stuka. I almost waited to long on the first shipment and lucked out on the last one. If you can, make a deposit as soon as you can because you will be glad you did when you get her. Plus, you will probably be the only guy in your club or for miles around to have one [GRIN]. I have been reading the build thread and find the tips and information good food for thought for when I put mine together.TONY.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Tony, so what engine are you puttin on the me 109? I'm a little leary of warbirds, I used to have a p40. Built it from a kit, supertigre 90, retracts, flaps, the works....It had about a 64 inch wingspan and weighed about 12 lbs. Wing loading was awful....It was a freakin nightmare to fly. If the engine died during flight, it would literally fall out the sky... Hopefully the stuka flies more like a plane rather than a brick. I haven't decided on the all green or the winter camo one... Anyway keep up the good work....

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Thanks a lot guys! Looks like the more I clean up the shop the longer it takes me to find anything LOL. War Birds are great if you set them up right. The last thing you want is for it to be tail heavy. I also like to lateral balance all my planes. Makes a big difference to my flying and tracking. On the ME-109 I have an OS 160FX with Jtech Wrap around muffler. Hitech digital servo's and Spectrum DX7 radio and will probably install lights, robart retracts and a Aces of Iron pilot [ extra work to paint but they look so real in a plane ]. The P-40 has a Magnum 180FSIT REALLY HAULS THAT BIRD. SAITO 115FS ON THE P-51and the SPITFIREhas an RCGF 26cc gas with smoke. Zenoha 38cc on the1/4 scaleBalsa USA D-VII and a Zenoha 26cc on the P-6E [ I love the way this plane flys]. Actually they all FLYONTHEWINGS. Don't like to drag a plane thru the sky on a motor. I like to watch them FLY. oh yea, the P-47 has a 26cc gas as well as the still in the bones 1/4 scale FLY BABY. Wish this snow would melt so I can go fly [GRIN]. Thanks for your intrest and comments guys. Have a Happy New Year of flying! TONY.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Sorry to say the ME-109 is not an ESM. It's [dare I say it] a Nitro planes version with flaps and working Cooler Flaps as well. I got it before ESM came to my attention. With a little work the Nitro Planes AFR's come out quite nice but the truth is I have gotten Hooked on the ESM products because I like the kinds of planes they are offering, the size, scale work and most importantly the CUSTOMERSERVICE, ACCESSABILITY and QUICKANDHONEST RESPONSE I get from TOMAS and ALANC. That's the kind of people and company I like to do business with. I forget who makes the Spitfire, will have to look thru my old paperwork to remember. Got a lot of flights on her though. Checked the fit of the YD-A 28cc on the Stuka last night. Fits great but will need a wrap around muffler [would like a low profile one If someone knows of one]. Going to have to use some long nose pliers to get the T-nut's mounted. It's a little tight getting to the back of the firewall. Have to think about the mounting method I will use. Also will have to open the bottom of the cowel to clear the cooling fins but that should come out neat and not look bad.

RotorWingNut, nice work on the Stearman and P-51. Very clean looking job. Got any space in your shop I can use? LOL. What size 3 Blade is that on your Stuka? Does it fly well with it or is it for scale? Tony.

The stuka pic is a stock on from the kit maker. The actual plane is very very similar. I just picked this up last month off craigslist. It was stashed in garage rafters for 5-10yrs... who knows. The guy just wanted it gone.
It's about 85% complete from a kit. There is some minor damage and repairs needed. It has never had servos mounted but all the rigging is there. It has a supertigre G90 bolted on with a 3 blade MAS 13x8. Not sure if I will use that prop. I just rebuilt the engine -it needed a new case since the exhaust flange was broken and bearings. Overall I think it just sat too long. Test run soon and then start working on getting the plane airworthy. The original guy etched in the panel lines and added lots of detail. He just didn't finish it.
I joined this forum to get some insight on the stuka and tips. I started a thread in anyone wants to follow the progress.

Checked out your thread. Really nice find on Craigs list. I can't find much on there in WV. You have a lot to work with on your Stuka. I will be following along with you. Will post my motor mounting as soon as I can get to it. Nice that you can rebuild your engine. Must save you a few bucks. Are you going to use it on your Stuka or are you going to put somthing more up dated on it?

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
To all those flying their Stuka's,
Could some of you please let me know what C of G you are flying at. I've read all the posts on this and other forums, and all say balance as per the manual, but what is the actual number you're using? My manual says 135mm from the leading edge, but ESM are renound for changing the instructions. As an example my manual that came with the kit said nothing about spacing the ailerons/flaps 16mm from the lower skin of the wing, but when I downloaded the manual from ESM's website, there are a few changes. To late, I'd already glued my hinges in and have 10mm. Someone in another forum said he'd spoken to others flying thier Stuka's at 121mm Cof G and felt 135mm was too tail heavy, so I'd like some real world proven numbers please. All help appreciated,
Dave.

Great fun detailing, just don't put the stars and bars on both top wings, Hellcats had them on the port wing only.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
I'll second that question. I'm about to start my build.
Also, what type of gassers are you guys running on this plane? I know that Tomas sells an RCGF 26cc with a Keleo exhaust that fits in the cowl, but I'm curious as to other engine options. I was looking at the RCS SV 26cc listed here:
http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/RCSSV26.html
However, I'm concerned about that muffler fitting in the cowl without having to hack it up. It seems like it would stick out the side of the cowl based on the pictures and some less than adequate measurements that they provide.
I'm also curious about this engine.

It looks like it might fit if the velocity stack on the carb is removed and a Pitts muffles is used.
Any thoughts?

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
The CRRC 26 is about 3.5 inches from crank centerline to the end of the side mounted carb, minus the stack. It would stick out of the cowl about .5 inches. You would also have to remove quite a bit on the bottom front to make room for the head and plug. You might be better off with a rear-carb engine.
