Looks like Thunder Tiger is going to be releasing a Royal Navy version of their September Pops Sea Fury! Approximately 68" span with flaps. Too cool! I really like my Thunder Tiger USN F8F Bearcat so I can't wait to get my hands on one of these.

I've just bought my kit and had a look at it tonight. I guess in the absence of any build threads I can start putting my two cents worth here.

I have to say the kit is VERY impressive to look at as it comes out of the box. That is until I got to the pilot inlcuded - what a piece of junk! I'm certainly not going to put that in my Sea Fury and I can't be;ieve Thunder Tiger have let themselves down in this way. A beautiful kit, complete with glass fuze, retracts, split flaps, scale looking tail wheel, pre-applied decals accurate except for some minor details and then they go and put "Cap'n Eddy" in the kit. I think I'll keep him for the next time my four year old has a bath.

Anyway, I intend to put a Super Tigre 2300 with Bisson muffler, swinging a 15.5 x 12 APC four blade, 4 1/2" WM spinner, scale wheels. Top flyte scale cockpit kit, do my own instruments set, air retracts and I'll look around for a better pilot to ft in the office. If you have any suggestions for a 1/7th scale pilot figure I'd be grateful.

Dave I just finished a wills hobby one from ebay , 66" fiberglass fuse , won it on ebay for $149 , the most difficult part was finding scale documentation , I ended up buying a book from warbirds tech , (not very good) vs squardin singnal but they dicontinued there version . ALso you can get the top flight interior kit , should fit in yours .
CJ makes very scale gear buts its pricey

Yeah, thanks, I've got the TF interior kit coming. I also have some decals coming from Pyramid in the UK and a pilot courtesy of BBI. I haven't thought too much about retracts except I'm not using the ones supplied with the kit. I've got some Spring Air that will fit nicely and I will think about oleos to suit but that may take some saving up first. I've already ditched the wheels that came with the kit in favour of some 3 3/4" dubro that look far better and more scale size.

I've taken the big bits out of the box and I am impressed I have to say. The quality of the parts and finish is quite good and I can't wait to get stuck in.

The flaps are split and two piece, connected by a control rod to give the scale appearance of the full size. You have to cut the flaps out and you have the option to leave the flaps alone, but why would you?

The decals are pre-applied at the factory and the only thing missing is the identifying numbers for the wings, which is a bit disappointing. I've got a set coming from a guy in my Club so I can get the VR930 you can see in the pic above. I've also got a set of decals coming from Pyramid Models for the "no step" etc decals to add some detail.

I've decided to put dummy stacks on her - I neither have the time nor skill to do a scale working exhaust for the 18 cylinder Centaurus, so I'm going to use brass tubing to simlualate the exhausts. I'll also use aluminium modellers strip to simulate the heat shield.

I thought I'd use some 10mm brass tube which I've sut into 3.5cm lengths. I then crimped them at one end to make it easier to attach them to the fuze. I've used silicon to attach them so there will be some reduction in fibration and they won't be as likely to come loose (fingers crossed!) I thought about attaching them to the cowl but I decided to go with the fuze in the end. With the cowl attached they protrude enough to look semi-scale.

I've done the wings and fitted the air retracts. I'm not going to use the plastic wheel wells supplied, rather I will fabricate the wells using ply. I've also done the cockpit interior and started the canopy rails so I'm getting there. I went to the AWM today and took some close ups of VX730 which is in RAAF livery, just so I could see where the detail is for all the stickers I got from Pyramid. Wish I could have got inside her! []

try "kiwi aircraft "they have a ton of interior shots on a refurbished interior , also "rob pike" winning touch interior kits for 80" and larger birds has a nice outline of the main dash board

Thanks, I like the look of your Corsair interior, it's great. The exhaust set up for your Fury looks like it will give a very realistic smoke plume out the side. I've got a Super Tigre 2300 with a Bisson muffler for mine. I'm goiung to set it up this weekend and run it for the first time. I'm thinking about flexi hose for the exhaust but I'm not sure about that yet.

I'm still fiddling with the cockpit floor and side panels and working out how I will fix it all in. I have put the switch in the floor of the cockpit so I can slide the canopy open to turn the power on and off. The switchwill sit between the pilots legs and the LED will be unobtrusive.

I think I've just had a brain wave! I can put the cockpit floor and side lower side panels ona sliding rail so when I lift off the canopy/fuze piece I can simply slide the cockpit floor aft so I can get at the servos when I need to. I can also incorporate the on-board glow into that mechanism. I'll do some more thinking and post pics later.

sounds like a great plan , your verson is so much nicer then my ebay cheapy , I never had interest in this plane but after my purchase I started to like the seafury and my invest in the Thunder Tiger versions like yours , keep me posted please

Sure thing. Thanks for your kind words.

I've cut some slots for the forward canopy rails and made them out of 4mm brass box tube with 3mm brass tube inside. I've put a bit of grease inside the rails to aid movement and I will attach the canopy with 1mm x 3mm countersunk screws (same as I've done on my Spitfire.

I'll then attach the windshield with silicone and hex drive screws to make it a permanent fit. The whole platform can then be removed to aid access to the inner bits.

There's plenty of room inside the fuze to fiddle with pull-pull on both rudder and tailwheel assembly.

great job , did you have to cut a slot in a square piece of brass bar stock ? I know its difficult to get brass rails with a slot

Yes, I used the demel to cut a slot in the box tube. It's fairly simple to do. I didn't use a jig or anything, just held the dremel up against my work table and set the tube at the right distance and then slid it along to make the cut. I guess I should use a jig to get it absolutely straight, but it's workable and quicker to do it this way.

I built the september fury and agree, the quality is great on this bird. I would love to know how much weight you had to put on the nose to get her to balance. I added almost a pound to mind. This is in addition to a 4800 mah battery...I was scared to fly this thing with that much weight. The engine I have in it is the OS 1.20 AX. This is one crazy fast plance though...quite a handful.

I haven't balanced her yet - she still has to have the tank, battery and receiver installed. I did test her at the field the other day however, and there was no weight needed. When I add the extra bits I may have to add some weight to the tail. Mind you, I have a Super Tigre 2300 and a Bisson muffler which is quite a way forward on the mount so we shall see. I will post pics when she is complete and give details of the weight and balance.

Nearly there. I've got a bit more to do to fnialise things like attach the canopy to the rails, finish off the cockpit and put in the air. Otherwise she's starting to look okay I think.

As far as weight , I have a 66" version of a Seafury , I had the same problem with the weight ,
I added a huge battery to the nose with aprox 12ox of weight , major disappointment to how light it was prior the my CG balance needs .I felt the same way as you , I am now hesitating to fly it !!!
Only time will tell , I have a siato 125 in the nose , CJ gear ect
