RE: 3W BEARCAT RENO RACE PAINT SCHEME
Hi Guys,
Now the fuz is done its time to try to match the paintwork to the wings and tailplanes....eeekkk!!!![sm=48_48.gif][sm=cry_smile.gif]
Its been quite dificult to copy the photo of the aircraft, as the original one does not exsist anymore more detailed photos are unobtainable!![] we have found some more photos of another Bearcat with a different race number, photos are from different angles but none still show the underside or topside of the wings and tailplane!! ive copyied the best i can with what ive got to go on, the underside is masked 1st, paying attention to the masked off line that goes through the gear doors, making them match the photos, when one half of the wing was marked out with 'fine line' tape the curves were traced, paper then turned over and the curves match on the other underside....[sm=tongue_smile.gif]
next stage is to flip the wing over and repeat on the top surface......[sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=biggrin.gif][sm=biggrin.gif]........ il show you all that when i get to that bit!!!!!!
all the best....

RE: 3W BEARCAT RENO RACE PAINT SCHEME
Hi guys.....
Well the next stage.... the top half of the wing was copied from the bottom maskings, the parts not wanting to be painted was then masked out, hung on the stands and airbrushed around the edge in white, next stage is to apply the 2mm thick to mask this off ready for the black!!....sounds like this is done realy quick, its not, it takes ages...stick and restick in the right place, tape peeling off etc etc[sm=sad_smile.gif][sm=sad_smile.gif].......but im getting there!!!!!!!
stay tuned for the next episode......
all the best...

RE: 3W BEARCAT RENO RACE PAINT SCHEME
Hi guys,
The next job was to apply the 2mm thick fineline tape around the edge of the white that was last sprayed on, as ive said before this is to mask off the black that was next sprayed on[sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]
after the black had been left to dry long enough for the 2mm fine line tape to be removed, it was then sprayed with 2K ICI 596 laquer to seal it all in, then left overnight to cure...............

HI guys,
Back to the masking again, onto the tailplane, this time a thinner 2mm fineline tape was used because of the more compound curves, as the larger 6mm tape lifts badly[sm=48_48.gif]
heres a sneek preview......[sm=wink_smile.gif].................... nearly done Mick!!!!!!!!

Then next the 2mm fineline tape was masked around the edge of the masking to mask out a 2mm line, just like the wings and fuz!![sm=spinnyeyes.gif]...............all good fun!!!!!!
black was then sprayed to add the last colour.............when this had dryed the last lot of 2mm fineline was removed, it was then given 2 coats of 2K laquer like the rest, its now been left to dry......
Next is to flat with 1500 wet and dry paper and machine polish, so next posting of photos it should look pritty much finished!!!
All is left to do then is to check over all parts to make sure they are ok....then...........MICK!!!............YOU HAD BETTER COME AND GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!![sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]
I will give you a call around the end of the week for you to collect, or i can take to Wings and Wheels if you like??
Just need to finish off and check parts and it's yours!!!!!

Rare Bear only wore this color one year. I don't like green but man does this make it look good...
Really nice job there. Looks too nice to risk flying...

Mick15, very nice looking Bearcat and thanks for sharing some of your painting expertise. Too bad Mr. Geren and his Bearcat were lost.

RE: 3W BEARCAT RENO RACE PAINT SCHEME
Hi guys,
Back to the tailplane, i 'flated' off the laquerd paintwork off and gave it a little machine polish back to the shine, unmasked the tailplane and they look fine!![sm=thumbs_up.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]
i dident get any photos of the tailplane........... but what i did instead was put the fuz on the stand and slot all the tailplane and wings on ..............you will notice a 'gap' between fuz and wings, thats because there is a hinge rod that is poking out the end of the flap, and i diddent want to damage the paint work!!![sm=angry_smile.gif][sm=angry_smile.gif][sm=lol.gif]
I have checked over the parts Mick, they all look ok, so if you want to collect tomorrow night your welcome!!....... well......apart from......... the left wing....[sm=50_50.gif][sm=50_50.gif][sm=72_72.gif][sm=72_72.gif]

No left wing?????..............well you see.....we (me and mick) have decided to put a No 5 on the left wing top panel, similar to 'Rare Bears' No 77...... we have no photgraphic evedence that one was on the original but thought it would break it up a bit!!

Had the model back from the paintshop a few days now, spent some time getting the U/C working properly.
Using the hydraulic system from Eurokits. I will post more pics and perhaps some vid later.
