Have NIB OS120Surpass and want first warbird. Prefer Hanger 9. Which warbird would BALANCE and FLY best with this engine?? What problems will I encounter fitting this engine in H9 warbird?? THANKS for all suggestions. RACJ

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
I think any of the 60 size planes would work just fine with the 120, mabee a bit over powered, there pretty light planes.
the 2 I have are powered by OS 91fs and they fly great.
it's just a matter of choosing which one is your favorite, with my P-40 you can't even see the engine I just ran the pipe out the back of the cowl,on my mustang the head sticks out a little bit but not too much.

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
That's good advice from Bigtim...
I had the H9 P-47 with a evo 1.00 in it and it was waaaaaay over powered (and I like to overpower my planes) and I never flew it past 1/2 trottle as the plane couldn't handle it (structurally).
I've seen seveal peeps flyingg the H9 warbirds with 91 fs and it's a perfect match.
If you're choosing a plane based on your engine, I'd look nto the KMP warbirds...that's a better match for the powerplant and in many people's opinion, a better plane.

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
Any of the H9 War Birds will fly it fine. It will give you “fly in power†as opposed to “over powered†(the next step down) or scale power (that is an insult). I have a friend that has been flying his H9 P-51D for five years now with a Saito 1.2 and the airframe handles it very nicely. I have a knock off with an OS Max 1.20 pumper in it and it moves right along.
If I move the right stick back some it will fly very scale like. And when I have to do those uphill maneuvers I have a reserve to make the size of loops look right.

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
Thanks for website. Extra power shouldn't be a problem,I was looking for someone using this motor as to BALANCE issues (maybe one H9 plane more tailheavy) and which plane has large enough cowl for this engine/muffler. Paladin,it appears to fit great in the mustang. THANKS,RACJ

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
Thanks for pics. I'm thinking the Hellcat is heaviest according to HorizonHobby and could use this engine best HOWEVER I was in LHS today and owner was praising the P-47. I looked and fell in love with that cowl; we haggled and I bought it. I may buy OS91 for the P-47 and still use 120 inHellcat or paladin, what do you think of Miss America P-51With OS120.THANKS,RACJ

the miss America, and the Marie, are the same plane different covering thats all, your 120 will do great in the P-47,its a nice looking plane a well.here's mine with the OS 91fs.
put some tony howard exhausts on it also they look much better than the stock ones by a huge margin.

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
RACJ, If it were me I’ld put the engine I have in it and spend the 90 money on a good set of retracts (spring air). Stay away from rotating retracts when you buy planes corsairs, p-40, f6f, because there’s a lot of expensive junk out there retract wise. While on the subject the week point on all WWII warbird arf’s is the landing gear mounts. You will break them out if left stock. What I normally do with pilots new to warbirds is two part foam between the front LG mount, upper wing sheeting, and LE. Once hard cut it back so that the retract units fit then glass the top of the front LG mount down the foam and onto the top LE sheeting under the retract mechanism. Put a ¼ in spacer between the back retract ear and rear LG mount.
The stock retracts will get you pulling hard E at touch down and that is a recipe for tip stalling! There are those that will tell you stock is ok, and for someone who knows what they are doing that is correct.
Fly this one, get used to it, enjoy it. The next one needs to have flaps. Once you learn how to land correctly with flaps you will never go back to sport planes.

RE: OS120S-E/H9 warbird?
THANKS,I'll try these mods on the landing gear. Your right, the P-47 has large enough cowl for this engine. I have flap experience on the 40size Great Planes RV-4 kit and OS46 but it really didn't need them to land. How about a explanation of how to correctly use them to land and I can practice on it then get H9 Spitfire. THANKS,RACJ

RACJ, this is a link to a thread that should answer alot of questions:
the first page deals with adding flaps to an arf the following pages deal with setting them up and flying them.
