RE: CMPro 71" Fw-190 kitbash
Hey LDM
I'm keeping that in mind, i just want to get her finished or near enough before i contact CMPro.
i've started mounting up the engine. In it's standard configuration, the muffler, top of the head, and the choke lever will stick out. to fix, BCMA engines have a wrap around dustbim exhaust for this engine, but it's out of stock for now. the choke lever, has three options, 1 is to cut down the lever to fit inside, 2 is to get a 90 degree adaptor plate, and 3, is to replace the carby with a WT-540 which doen't have as long a lever and will give me another 800 or so rpm's according to the SPE thread.
thanks
Dave

RE: CMPro 71" Fw-190 kitbash
I'm thinking that i will use velcro (hook & loop), and also some cable tie's with these plastic mounting pads, for the ignition module. As for the battery pack, it will go above the fuel tank just behind the firewall.
I've just emailed BCMA to find out how long it will be before the exhaust comes back into stock so i can calculate where i can place the ignition module. It might halt work a little, but i have just started on the cockpit so there will be no major rush for a while.
Thanks
dave

Well guy,
BCMA have come back and told me that they have been getting the run around from the supplier of the dust bin exhausts so i'll have to look for another solution.
Lenny tells me that the belts for his lathe have arrived and he's playing catch up, but i have to say, i have tired waiting for this gear. it's been literally months since i first started talking with him about them.
I re-modelled my mustang's retracts last weekend at a warbird meet, so now i have some repairs to do on it's wing and retracts.[&o]
On a lighter note, i have been working on the cockpit. I decided to sratch build this one so see how it comes out and i am pretty happy with it so far. i'll post some pic's as soon as i find the camera.... i'm only really making the details which would be hard to add later on once the canopy is glued into place. Unless of couse i get too excited and end up finishing the whiooe lot in one go!
Thanks
Dave

Hey LDM,
Yeah, i'm kinda not impressed. i have been waiting since June this year for them..... so that's 3-4 months
I have asked KMP for a price for their Fw-190 retracts to see what they come back with. I'd imagen that Lenny's stuff would be better, but 3 months is a fair go in my book.
Thanks again for your assistance with the emailing
thanks

I have to disagree with Oz. Bashing an ARF is becoming an art-form, you go Dave!

If you go back and read the thread, you will see that i have already gone through all the points you made...
I agree with you as i have stated earlier, except for the os 120 fs being enough power. I had a brand new os 120 fs pumper in mine and the power was marinal to say the least. given that i was running the engine in at the time if you go back you will read that i have put the 40cc motor in so that i can spin an almost scale sized 3 blade prop and therefore making her MORE scale. That, and were i fly there are some nasty trees that have this habit of snatching models out of the sky, so it's handy to have a little extra power on tap to get out of those situation. not that i have been caught out before, but you never know.
I normally do scratch build, and kit build, but this is an inbetwen projects kitbash. and i have never kitbashed a model to this extent either so it's something new too.
How do you find your eurokit retracts? which ones did you use and are they set to scale angles? I'm still waiting on lenny at shindin so have started to look at other option including the set that comes with the yt/KMP Fw-190.
Thanks

RE: CMPro 71" Fw-190 kitbash
Found the camera!!!!
Here you go, i cut out the cockpit "floor" so that i can get a little more cockpit in there. One thing i shouldn't have done is cut it all out as i've had to put back in a small section at the rear shelf. No biggy, but would have been better if i had thought of it before.
The instrument panels are coming along nicely, I scratch built the whole thing bar some of the smaller instrument bezels. I think i prefer to scratch build them, because it wasn't that hard and i don't have to put up with someone elses compromises. The way i did it was to print out a full sized version and make sure it fit in the cockpit, then i cut balsa to suit and covered it with 0.010" styreen sheet. in the picture there are 3 separate panels, and once finished i will attach them together with the correct angles before installing them into the cockpit.
The bezels are made by cutting some aluiminium tube into thin slices and then sanding them down to the correct size. i then glued them down to 0.020" styreen sheet and cout out the mounting bolt ears. the artificial horizon is the same but with an extra layer of 0.040" sheet inbetween and the serations filed out. the instruments themselfs have been soruced from different places, but all have been photoshop'd and them printed out on glossy, self adhesive paper, cutout, and then stuck into place. i will put a drop of gloss clear coat to simulate the glass faces and they'll be complete.
Now i have to make some placards and all the levers, handles, etc and it will be complete. i've got the next few days off work so i hope to even have the Revi 16B gunsight made, installed and ready for the cockpit to be glued down.
Thanks
Dave

RE: CMPro 71" Fw-190 kitbash
Thanks LDM,
ARHHHH, my digi camera just died!!! Doh, didn't need that just now.
Well, i have done a little more. i made the REVi 16 gunsight and installed that into the instrument panel, and have made all the appropriate cutouts in the cockpit combing. the instrument panel is also now installed in the model. so tomorrow if i get some time i will look at the canopies again and work out if i am going to use these ones or get anotherone vacformed. if i'm going to use these ones, then i will epoxy it down, and then add a small piece of glass around the lower perimeter to hold it down and help blend it into the fuse.
Might have to use the cell phone camera for a little while till i get a replacement camera....[&o]
thanks

Lucky my little sister is in town visiting, so i borrowed her camera to get some pics. here is the top section of the instrument panel, gunsight and leather padding around the combing.
I also glued down the canopy with some RC 560 canopy glue, but once it is dry i will add a small strip of .5oz glass around the edge of the canopy to blend it into the fuse.

Just kidding. Very nice work on that 190.

Looks like we may have bough our first house, which will need plenty of work so i realy want to get both aircraft flying before i don't have he time anymore...
