Default Struts for Marutaka Zero 1/8 scale

Hi,

I'm looking for working struts like the Robart 652 offset but these are too long for my 1/8 Zero Marutaka the max long from top of the strut to wheel axle must be about 94 mm the ( 3.70 " ) Robart even after cuting it will be minimum 116 mm long ,

Thanks

Century Jet has them http://www.centuryjet.com/webstore/m...TOKEN=22823881 this is the gear but I am sure you could buy the struts also separatly

3.7" sounds too short to me. That translates to 29.6" on the full scale. The full scale is closer to 50", which translates to around 6.25" from the axle to the wing.

I didn't even look at your diagram, looking at the C-Jet offering the # seem a little small to me also I haven't looked at the zero plans but you might want to check those # again.
those struts are for a mustang but the off set seems pretty close to the CJ's.
do you have any photos of your wing, and is this the smaller Zero?

Hi,

thank's for your answers here some pictures they speak more than words , the century jet retracts should be good not for my zero but for the bigger rone 0.60 CI , I think struts doesnt exist for planes under 0.60 Ci engine, I look around at many makers with no results , the only possible is the plastic cover from Robarts, unless someone haave an idea ? maybe it's short lenght but this is the location on the Marutaka plans, my zero is the middle one, not the 1/2 A and not the 0.60 CI , it's the 0.48 CI ( with FS 0.50 Magnum ) wing span is 148 cM ( 59 "). flying is perfect landing with deployed flaps is realistic, I have it more than 10 Years, and I just buy another one ! it come with the aluminium cowl and the famous Zero round spinner (most of Zero kits put in the box a non scale spinner )

Perhaps the gears are mounted too close together? The full scale A6M5 had a wingspan of 11000 mm. With yours at 1480 mm, that gives a scale of 1/7.4324. The full scale had a distance of 3500 mm between the wheels when the gears are down. This means that at the 1/7.4 scale, the distance should be 471 mm.

thank's Scott ,I will check this on my second Zero , I just buy a new one that I just start construction yesterday, if the distance is larger between the gears it could be a problem , as far you go from center wing ( moment is bigger ) if you made a hard landing it can break the wing .

if someone need some Marutaka kits they are available in France ( Zero same as mine 0.5 CI , 1/2 A and some Mustang 40 ( 1.41 cm wing span 56 " ) plus the nice scale Spinner for Zero in aluminium from Marutaka.

Looks great Dan! I am in the process of converting the regular flaps of my World Models Zero to split flaps. I've done a Google search for the Zero's split flaps but didn't come up with much. I was wondering if you could post some detail pics of your Zero's flaps and actuation method to give me some ideas. A picture of the kits plans might help too if it's not too much trouble. Or maybe you have a good link for me.

Thanks, Craig

Hi Greg,

I will send you later more pics , the plan didnt show a method for the flaps only where to cut on the bottom of the wing , my idea was to make it simple ( I did on the two Zero I have the same ) and its working after 10 years of flying on my other Zero.
just glued an aluminium tube with Ca & Epoxy to the leading edge of the flap and this tube is fixed at each end with small metal axe inside the tube for about 2/16" and glued the other side in ribs, plus a consolidation in the middle with the blue tube "semiflex" from Sullivan . its not easy with my English to explain .. ( even in French I'm not sure I could be more clear... ) the pictures wil speak better.

the flaps on the Zero are a must for the looking and for landing even on 1/8 scale

HI,

here the video for the flights made few days ago , she flies very weel except it was not a good idea to make the lenght of the struts scale to the original ( 3 cm longer than the other zero on same thread ) you will not see on the video that take off was ok maybe I was lucky this day ( we have cross wind 85 % of the time ) , but I crashed three times on take off after the plane bank 85 deg left side ( with the wind ) just after taking off , speed is not the cause, the other old Zero ( the silver one ) never did this even with strong cross wind ).

So my idea is that for the cross wind its more easy to lift the right wing when the Zero is higher on his gears , what you think , ? should I put more right thrust ( over the 3 deg from the plan ? )

it will be repaired this week , its broke always at the same place ( behind engine mounts ) and because Marutaka are good kit and it is glassed all the rest is intact.

awaiting comments from experts .

thank's and sorry for my school english ( it was long time agao... )

Dan

just forgot to said that also the distance between the gears on the New zero ( the green one ) is more important + 9ctm ( 50 cm instead of 41 cm )

thank's

Sorry to hear about the crash, great videos though. I really liked the slow motion shots. I would ask the question about take off problems in the aerodynamics forum. That is where all the experts hang out. Thanks again for the help with the flaps. I finished my flaps and flight tested them and they seem to be working great so far.

hi I'm new to this and I brought a zero off ebay it was built from plans that I now believe is exactly the same as the 1480mm ws version of the marutaka zero kit. I'm desperate for a copy of the plans and would be most greatful if somebody could please help me out. many thanks. Scott.
