RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Hi juweeltje..... well I came back in here for a look after 5 years... I'm awatoto here in New Zealand and I did a series of articles in here definetly page 19 I think from 17 to 20.... However this weekend flew my Bearcat at our Warbirds over awatoto it is a very nice plane to fly with the DA50 in it it is very fast because mine is all composite it is heavy with a full load of fuel plus 1 1/2 lbs lead in the nose it weighs in at 21 1/2 lbs, but with good Sierra retracts full flaps at about 1/4 throttle coming in from height at about 30% nose down attitude she comes in and lands very nice.... do not however ever try to land it with only 1/2 flap or less and get slow you'll see it start shaking and you'll have about 2 seconds to get some power back on or it will drop a wing... always come in reasonably fast and cut the power as your flairing and it will touch down like the full size. This my second Bearcat the control horns they supply in the kit are a no no my first bearcat destroyed itself when the horns let go and it developed flutter because those horns have the triangular hole in them they fracture and break. Now the second Bearcats been built with carbon fibre horns and extra strengthening and fibreglass around the firewall etc and solid 4.40 wires through tubes for the elevators this plane is a joy to fly and has been clocked with a radar detector at 245 kph.... if anyone wants to look at our website it is : www.hbrf.org.nz and if you take a look over the next month or so you'll see all the pics of our warbirds rally..... plus one of the best aerobatic flyers in the world was there Namely Frazer Briggs and he broke a wing off his big extra 300 while giving a flying demonstration he did a complete circuit of the flying field in knife edge flight and got the plane back to the flying field with minimal damage just knocking one undercarriage leg off as he flicked it back onto its wheels...As good a bit of skilled flying as you could ever see this vid will come up on our website the date 25th Feb 2013.
But back to the Bearcat a lovely aeroplane to fly just come in reasonably fast and its just awesome had this one flying at shows for 4 years now
Cheers Mike

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
hi awatoto,
nice to hear from you!
mine is almost build.
now i'm waiting for the esm elec retracts (version 3 ) to arrive, so no air for me. I know, some will say that the esm retracs s**cks, but i hear some good news about the latest versions, so i give it a try. I should recieve them in about 2 day's.....
mine is also stockpull/pull on rudder and elevator....
i hope that our field with 75 meters will be long enough????
i will use a new DLE-35RA with a homemade muffler to make hime quieter...
in a few days, some test runs with the muffler.....
nice to hear from you!

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
hi guys,
so, finally, mine is ready for the maiden…
now waiting for the nice weather here in Belgium……i hate the winter
so i cam tot a total off 7,8kg or 17,2 lbs (incl elec v3 esm gear and cowl)
extra weight in the nose : 0,8kg or 1,76lbs
Cg: will take 130mm
also no noisy stock muffler, but homemade one for my dle-35ra…..(i'm curios how it will sound)

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
i also have esm bearcat too airex vesion, plane is a little heavy at about 10 kgr but its really fast
i fly it with dle 30cc and 18x10 graupner sonic prop.
i have eurokit and esm struts on it and i am very happy with that setup!
i fly that model about 2 years now and i agree that you have to land it fast with full plaps in order not to stall but if you follow that way plane comes really nice and scale like.
i have balanced it at 1/4 of the wing root chord and i think its the ideal cg for that model.

Juweeltje,
In your muffler design do you have the smaller exhaust tube up to the top in the the larger section? did you drill small holes as well?

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Hello ,
Have a f8f bearcat KMp to build in the next months , my plan is to use the extra weight needed on the nose to
install Zenoah 62 with an Apc AT6 Propeller , get speed and having a reno look .
This prop has a special design for large cowl like the bearcat but will only run with a 60cc I guess .....
Thank's for comments ....

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Yes, it's its main problem... [] with the main gear that I changed for a CENTURY JET special P47 (after modification on the wing)
I have already broken 5 cockpits and two original main gears in 40 flights since 2008.
But window changes easily..
Normally, I will flight with him and my Me 110 this weed end at Reims.

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
I have been flying the all composite version since I think 2008, the original manual indicated the CG at 100mm however the nose felt very heavy. after moving the CG back I settled with 140mm, the plane has been flying since with great success, somewhere around 170 flights!

maiden mine a couple weeks ago. She fly's great and even pretty slow (CG at 130mm) . the second landing she tumbled over, only my 19x8 menz prop was broken. Now I have a here a 18x8 menz, should that be a great difference?
and anyone tried a 20x6 on the dle-35 ????
