RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Good Morning:
I have, expect to get KMP Bearcat today or tomorrow. Do you think a Satio 125 will pull it? Also how much weight did you put in the nose, one picture of the Bear showed it bolted to the engine mount, if that was your plane. One more thing, what do you think of baffleing the engine to get better cooling, I have a Seafury that is baffled and was able to exhaust it out the scale location, putting no holes in the cowl, except for the needle valve. I have a thing about holes in cowls.

Hi Ray,
Well, just don't know wrt the Saito, gut says may be a bit underpowered and more lead would be needed-took almost 10 oz with the Zenoah G-26-and yes, the pic is of my 'Cat.
This baby is a natural with the three stacks per side just aching to be used!
You will love your 'Cat,

Hi Hookemut:
Thanks for the answer, looks like I am going to pull a Satio 150/180 put of one of my planes. I have both, My only problem with the 180 is the fuel, it likes fuel, cost me a plane. but the weight is a plus.
I don't own any gas engines, that new Satio gas 4 stroke has my interest of late.

Howdy,
I'm flying from a grass field, and using the Generation 5 retracts that came with the KMP kit. You, there as you are with access to the YT group, can easily obtain the various Generation improvements ie beefier wire stubs and retract springs.

the right investment from the outset should pay dividends .... I dont care too much about the cost , it has to be right ....its cheaper in the long term. Hookemt I have contacted Yt and its a few weeks before i can get my hands on the retracts , I am prepared to wait , it was just a thought. I cant wait to get this bird in the air ......

Did I read something somewhere about the gear being adjustable for side to side movement? ie. the backlash between rotating mechanism and the side rails?

Happy in Louisiana:
Bearcat arrived this afternoon. Hookemut, what is your C/G Measurement, I have two measerments 100 and 140. The one on the Inst. sheet from the downloaded Inst. and one on the Inst. received with the kit. The Instructions with the kit have it 40mm fwd. of the ones I downloaded.

Hi Debris,
Yep, good retention! alan of YT has briefed us on what I take to be that subject. If you can look at one of the retract assemblies, you can notice that of the four steel pins which space the two sides, two have small holes drilled thru their mid-point. When the screws which grip the ends of these pins are loosened, then a small diameter lever can be inserted into the holes and used to rotate the pin which with an eccentric motion affects alignment. Best I can do with words, best is to actually work with the retact unit and see this in action. Also, contact alan at YT for the real scoop.

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Yeah you know that is as I remembered it as well. Exactly as you described. I've got the four cross bars, two of which have a drilled hole. Now from what I can see there is a shoulder machined onto the end of the crossbar to register inside the side rails. But there is not any adjustment here that I can see, they appear to be machined as one piece [&:]
So unless this is an idea that hasn't made it into all kits or what I don't know....
I'm just putting lead in the nose of this thing as we speak...sheesh, it's going to take a bit with my Saito 125 in their to get it balanced. My instructions say CofG is 145 mm behind the leading edge..
EDIT: It came up at 1.2 KG []
cheers
Mick

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
the instructions are a bit vague, and some of the components ie: horns etc are a bit naff.... so Iv binned them and using better quality parts. This model is quite stunning .
I hope it flies as well as it looks.

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
the horns are a well poven standard fitting, and have been used throughout the YT teams aircraft, and have caused no problems,
i dont expect the fittings to apeal to all, i change some bits myself, but naff? naw, they work ok

Hi Biggles,
Lookin good, and since I chose the Zenoa G-26, your engine choice is beyond my ken. I'm sure you will be delighted with its flyability!
Don't have the word 'naff' in my vocabulary, but I do sense that it ain't good, the sense of the word, that is. The kit horns have been faithfully doing their job on my 'Cat since first takeoff-no signs that the tough plastic is wearing.
WRT the retract assembly adjustments-the side-plate pins are fastened to the side plates by cap screws on my Gen. 5 assemblies. Loosening these allow twist on the pins to affect change, pin ends are champhered a bit. CG is per the manual that came with the kit.

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Yep, sure is nose weight, and that's what it will take to get the CofG correct with a Saito 125 (or similar 120). That's what you get with a short nose moment fiberglass aircraft.
Yeah some of the hardware is a little naff. You gotta smell the roses on that one - despite the propaganda. Screw heads come away, plastic clevises break easily, vague instructions, poor metallurgy, etc etc..
But I am sure they are getting better.
The aircraft speak for themselves once they are completed. ESM/YT/Kondor should be proud.

Hi Down Under:
It looks like mine will take about 5lbs. to get C/G I have Satio 120S in mine. Hope to do engine runs tomorrow and fly Monday

RE: KMP F8-F Bearcat
Thanks for the wishes.
Maybe, I hope so, it will be better as last year.
Now my motivation is back and I'm ready to built new models.
The engine for the Bearcat will be a Laser 180 or, I think this is the first choice, a 170 Saito radial.
Second time I built a Nitroplanes Macchi 200.
Also still waiting for the KMP FW 190, to come in Germany.
At last I ordered a Fokker DR I, 1:3 from Arizona models, engine will be a ASP 400 Radial.
So I have much work to do.
Greetings
Klaus
PS.
KMP P 38 and KMP JU 87 must have their first flight this spring

Hi Hookemut , I am delighted to hear that the G26 is cutting the mustard. Do you think the Jen 160 26cc petrol will be a good match based on the G26 experience and performance. ? Oh naff means poor , crap etc...
ALANC
I didnt wish to offend or indeed put anyone off with regards to horns etc.... Im sure they will do , Iv had a few problems in the past and its made me a little cautious. I think this bird is fantastic and recommend it all and sundrie. I will certainly buy another YT/KMP/ESM type. Iv got Hangar 9's and a Glens Extra , Iv flewn allsorts , but none look as good as a YT . I do think that instructions are Vague. You have a loyal ambassador in this pilot , when get this bird down to our field I will have the tom toms banging a I want one of those message. CHOCS AWAY CHAPS
