Default Warbird Pilots Please Vote (TF Giant Kits pole #1)

I have seen enuff of the Allied planes to last me a life time. As the poll I am running is showing, we scale guys like a good challenge, somethig unusual and maybe even ugly. All the allied planes have been overdone. It is time for something new and unusual and scale.....my vote is for the 109....as long as they can go with the scale size empennage and retracts. Check out my poll on how you choose your scale project here in the scale thread.

Yes, we got a reply several months ago but for some reason I placed the reply in another thread. Oh well, for those who didn't get to see it, here is the quote from the product development manager at Top Flite:

"Dear Jim,

I have just finished reading the results of your poll as posted on R/C Universe. I would first like to thank you for taking the time to organize the poll and compile the results. The information you provided will be a valuable asset in the decision making process for the next-round of new kit offerings from Top Flite Models. Please notice I said "next-round". The choices for all upcoming kit offerings have already been finalized and the projects are well underway.

I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that, at this time, I can't divulge any information regarding our pending releases, nor the selected subjects of any future releases. I can, however, tell you that the information you provided has served as a point of interest and will find a place of consideration in any future kit selection processes.

Contrary to popular belief, Top Flite has in no way stopped producing kits. We have, however, begun to really look at our offerings and evaluate the market. We are currently working on a number of projects - some of which will release this year - that will certainly please even the most discriminating modeler. Stay tuned and watch-out!

In closing, I'd really like to thank you and all the participants again for the comments and insight. It's feedback like this that really helps us get a feel for what the modeler desires.

With Warmest Regards,

Craig

Product Development Manager

Default F4F

My money is on the F4F. It was the US aircraft to down a German A/C, albeit the it was known as the Martlet. It played key roles in operation Torch and in the PTO.

I would like to see Top Flite offer a Giant Scale Bearcat, or at least a Gold Edition.

P-51s fly great and all and so does the P-47 but they are played out!!! meaning they are a dime a dozen...

with that said why not do a ME 262 or a spitfire mk 24 (i believe) with the 5 bladed prop...but i have to agree we need a BEARCAT IMO this is a kit/airplane that should have been kitted LONG AGO!?

I would like Top Flite to come out with a GS F8F Bearcat, but I would go for a Zero or ME109F also.

Ditto on the GS Bearcat - how about an F6F Hellcat or SBD Dauntless?

For my money I think the Zero is the best flying warbird of all of them

I'll just point out that you (and 3 others so far) have responded to a thread last visited in 2004.
Best wishes,

You are correct Dave, but with the recent re-release of the Ultrasport and Super Sportster kits by GP as a direct result of an RCU thread that went on for over two years, it shows they do pay attention to us. So, even though it's been a while since this thread was last active, it's probably a good thing to let them know we are still interested and waiting for their next offering.

Yep, there is nothing wrong with reviving an old thread to spark new interest.

JDHammer,

I am building the 1/8 scale TF GE F4U Corsair now and am doing all the mods as seen on CorsairJocks 1/8 scale Corsair mods Thread. I am only going to build this one TF kit because it is far from scale. My next Corsair will be Don Smith's 1/4 Scale 120" WS F4U-1 Corsair. I think that TF is a great kit manufacturer for the simple builder but if you are going to make it look and operate like the real thing TF is not the kit for a true scale builder that goes all out. This is just my honest opinion.

For a new offering, I'd like to see a Bf 109 or a Hellcat with both of them being IMAA legal. But, to be honest, I would like to see them enlarge their existing P-40, P-39 and/or Spitfire. Of these, the Airacobra is the most desireable in my opinion..........which, of course, is just another belly button if you catch my drift.

My vote is for the Hellcat or the Zero. 80"+ span. Or maybe release their B-25 as a kit.

Hey Biggles2, do you fly in AcesHigh?

Howdy,

I am building TF's 1/8 scale F4U-1D Corsair and doing all the mod's that CorsairJock did and then some. I am disappointed in the TF kit. It is OK for stand off scale but you have to really bash it to make it near scale. I have decided not to build the TF Giant Corsair and sold it along with engine and all the rest of the parts to complete the kit. I bought Don Smith's 1/4 scale F4U-1D Corsair and am going to make that my first plan built kit. The kit was cut by Laser Cut USA and it is the entire wood kit. Nothing else wood related to buy. Don is very good about putting instructions right on the plan and at RCSB there are plenty of builders willing to help out if I have problems. If I wanted a warbird with pictures and instructions Meister Scale is providing them now for all their kits. They are a much better choice than TF and Dino is a Customer Service oriented businessman. You will talk to him direct if you have problems and I'm sure as Owner of the company he will satisfy your needs.

Just my opinion,

Gibbs
