RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Here's a few pics under the cowl to show what I did for the exhaust routing, the placement of RX battery, onboard battery, throttle servo(underside of the wood tray)etc.
These pics do NOT show the additional lead weights I had to add to still get it to balance. I dont recall exactly, but I added about 9oz of lead weights on the front of the wood tray plus 3 oz epoxied into the very front of the cowl itself.
The red rx battery is dead weight. Its an old 4.8v battery that doesnt hold a charge anymore. Thats NOT included in the 9oz of lead on the wood tray I had to add. The blue thing is the rx battery(6v 2300mah)

If you had put a larger gas motor up there you would not have had to put all the dead weight to make up the difference. I used a G38 and put the battery beside the fuel tank and up against the back of the fire wall and did not add ANY weight at all and it balanced at 133 back. I hate having to add any dead weight when you don't have to. [:@]

I did not have an appropriate gas motor on hand nor did i want to use one. Its the same amount of overall weight up front regardless of whether its a heavy gas motor or a lighter glow motor with dead lead to used to balance.
That g38 is roughly the same power output anyway.

Hello, considering selling my FW-190 with a 26cc do to lack of time.... panel lines added and clearcoated. Flown three times, esm retracts with robart valves and tank.... nice and gentle to fly... so my question is what do you guys think a fair price would be?
thanks

I'm grinding the spike off my vertical stab. Mine flipped in landing today and the spike dug into the dirt, the entire fuse just forward of the stabs flexed, actually looked like rubber, lol. Got some cracks in the paint and glass to fix now. Gonna have to laminate some carbon cloth inside the to stiffen it. That part of the plane always seemed like a weak point. Reason for the flip was the left locked up on the axle.

Well, my luck was about the same. I have the sierra retracts and the anti rotation arms are almost more trouble than they are worth. The bolts are so big that if you do not use spacers on the axles, the wheels will rub when the shock is depressed. This may also lock them up, as I found out one day on landing.
Recently, on a new motor maiden my bird was tail heavy and I managed to get it around a few times, but landing was too difficult and I ripped both retracts out of the wing. The rear part of the wood mounts stayed in, but the weak point, the fronts, came out. Now I can make them stronger, with carbon fiber reinforcement plates. I figured it would happen sooner or later . Not a big deal. I already went to Home Depot and got perfectly matched paint from BEHR. It was tail heavy because of the full cockpit and full pilot. I thought I had it balanced correctly, but nope.
onward!

Bill,
Sorry to here about the damage to the FW. I had a very similar experience the other day and tore the STBD gear loose from the forward part of the mount a second time. The wood is very light and spongy on mine. I can see I need to add some real reinforcement on the gear mounts if I want it to last any length of time.

Flew mine a 2nd time sunday. The prop in use, an 18x8 is just too much for the saito 180 and flies the plane way too slow at 7100 rpms. Static speed comes out to 53mph and I doubt the plane was flying any faster then that. It struggled to do a standard roll. A friend lent me a graupner 16x8 and we'll see how that does next time.
As far as the landing gear...Ive not had one issue landing the plane as mine wants to float in rather well at idle and full flaps.

I am sure mine was tail heavy, and heavy overall. I had no issues landing it with the first motor, a 26. I am flying it now with a three blade Biela 17 X 10 prop on a PTE 36R motor. The motor has plenty of power, rear exhaust and rear carb. It would haul it straight up if need be. Our field, however is not level. Makes it interesting, especially if you are landing with the ground falling away from the plane.

Never weighed it. Placed as much possible stuff forward of the firewall as possible....ie...throttle servo, onboard glow, rx battery, dead weight, saito 180, etc. All in all, added probably about 20oz of dead weight up front. Best guess would be around 16 pounds. Next time I have it together, if I remember, I'll try and weight it.

I've got to try and lighten mine, it doesn't even come close to floating in. Going to remove the heavy ESM metal wheels and ridiculous pilot I've got in mine, I'll bet I drop a pound out of it. Mine is a real challenge to fly.

Mine weighs in at 19.5 lbs but I was suprised at how much it slowed down. Even floated a little bit and bounced before settling down. Suprised the heck out of me. I thought the plane that heavy would come in like a lead brick.

Has anyone put an ASP FS-400AR on this plane? I know it's a lot of motor at @65cc for the size plane but you don't have to run it all out. I'd like to keep all my warbirds in the same scale and the deal on the 400 just couldn't be passed up. Besides that; I already have the ESM/YT/KMP 190. Originally intended to put my FA-170r3 in it as I have seen that to be a tried and true combo.

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Hobbyking doesnt list the dimensions of the asp400, but its 5x .40 4 strokes around the central hub and the saito r170 is 3x .56's. The 56's are bigger cylinders, but the central hub area of the asp 400 is larger due to the crank needing to accomodate 2 more cylinders.
Since the saito r200 is the same displacement as the 170, it will also fit in the esm 190.
If you've already got the asp 400, then you might want to instead put it in the new TF 50cc size FW-190. Ppl are flying 96" gee bees with that asp 400 so it will definitely fly an 86" or so warbird with ease.

Not a question of power on the 400, mainly just size and weight on the airframe.
Going any larger on the plane is not an option though the new TF FW-190 is a good looking bird...no room for bigger planes, no desire to deviate from the current scale of the fleet (keep them all the same size) and I already have the ESM FW-190 as well as all of the rest of the airframes I'm intrested in @1/6 scale either finished or in the box waiting.
May wind up with the original plan re: the Fa-170r3 and stick the 400 in the office just to look at until I add a stearman to the build que or some thing. That'll be a while though. Not quite even 1/2 through the current warbird line up...P-51 and KI-61 done, Zero and ME-109 on the bench, FW-190, Spitfire and P-40 in que.

I'm beginning to get a handle on the addiction. [:-]
Went through all of the stuff that had been piling up over the years and started selling the engines I knew I was never going to use or use again, the duplicates and the kits that I had stocked up on or doubled up on that weren't going to be built in this lifetime....Like two GP .40 size J3 Cubs in the box while I have a finished one in the hangar or three each NIB OS FT-120's and Saito FA-130t's and more. Sold off 7 plane kits and 16 engines.
Still hoarding an assortment of NIB Kyosho SQS series Arfs(p51, ki-61, spitfire, P40, bf109 and fw190) that really should go. So, I guess I'm done with buying any more planes and I'm pretty well stocked for engines, with a few spares for swapping around.......
OH, oh, oh!!! Somebody just listed a 65'' DR-1.....gotta run.......[&:]

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Hi guys, I am about to finish building my FW-190. I redid it a bit, making it a replica of the famous ace Heinz Bar, who typically flew the red 13 (and not a yellow 11 like this model). Unfortunately I have not been able to figure out how to post pictures from iPad on this forum so I can only provide a link to a small buildthread I am doing on a Dutch forum:
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...w-190-a-6.html
She's going to be powered by a Laser twin 200v with 18-8 prop. Retracts are ESM electrics.
OK, now a question: for mounting the engine did you just follow instructions (just 6mm below centerline) or did you build in some side/down thrust? Also, on my firewall ESM put a sort of centerline horizontal and vertical. However, they don't seem to be very specific.
