Here's what happened when I tried to place one of these on an oleo to attach a door,it came apart into 4 pieces. They are all made up of ply,so I tested the rest to see.....and guess what? They fell apart.
Any ideas on another option......grrrrrrrrrr.

Aslan,

If you look back through this thread you will see that I used computer nuts and screws to acheive a more scale like effect.
It is not perfect but it holds up fine and I have not had a problem yet. It takes a little time to assemble them but that is one
other way to do it. My setup is also permanatly fixed to the gear so the doors do not move at all so I have 0 hang up issues,
but the doors are removable with the 8 screw per gear if you need to remove them.

Just checked it is post 168. I used some of my unsusable .50 BMG shell necks for the brass rings around the gear as they were
a perfect size. But you could just as easily use brass or copper pipe for the same effect. I believe ticketec ended up using about the
same method I did for his FW-190 kit bash except his looks better than mine.

Aslan,

It is a caliber of gun. I used some of my unusable brass and cut the case necks off. It was easier then going to the
hardware store and buying some copper tubing.

Hi all was asked to measure up the inzpan cockpit kit (main panels )
to see if it would need much trimming to fit the KMP FW190.
The measurements & afew other bits and peices.
Have not started on the side panels yet and am trying for a used look
with the panels.
All the best Steffan.

A while back in this thread I read that the CG was being set to 130mm. The instructions that came with mine say 100mm. The picture in the book shows a CG right at the aft edge of the wheel wells, which measures the 130mm. The 100mm that is printed in the book looks incorrect when you measure it on the wing.

Any one else run into this issue?

Instructions with mine said 130 and after some thought that's where I put it with the help of a ton of weight. See page 13 of this thread for how I measured it.

With quite a few flights under my belt I would not change from the 130mm.

Looking for a pilot figure. I'm not going to build a cockpit. I'll use decals for the panel and fabricate the armor plate behind the pilot. Was thinking of Cajun RC's 1/5 scale figure. That's about the right size, don't you think?

Thanks for the pics. I'll check thsat one out also, but I'm not opening up the cockpit floor, so I'd have to cut him off pretty short!

OK, one more question, guys.
Tomorrow I'm going to join the wings. Any suggestions on adding two more joiners, one in front and one in the rear, to aid in alinement if nothing else. The single joiner that fits pretty loosly in the pocket is a bit offputting for me. I'll have to work out how to deal w/ the dihedral angle, but I just don't trust what's in the kit.
Thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks
Al

Mobyal,Put the brace into one side and use tooth pics to hold it there.Trim them off at the root.Put the other half on and if they line up,take it back off and mark a line on the brace. Then glue it in.
I wouldn't add any more joiners.I have a YT German pilot bust that you can have if you want it.If you pm me your address I could post it to you.
Joe.

Mobyal, have you checked out Aces of Iron's homepage? They have wery nice "half" figures. Bought an American WWII pilot my self for my KMP P47 last year. Don't think there is any German pilot in scale 1:6 but they do have them in 1:5 scale perhaps some trimming will make it fits?

I am extremely disappointed in these KMP retracts, first of all the air tank leaks around the crimp at the top, Replaced it with a robart. Then the check valve in the fill valve leaks, replaced it with a robart and a Clippard in-line check valve.

So i think I finally got it sorted out, WRONG! the retract cylinders themselves leak. I took apart the cylinders and found one of pistons had come unscrewed off the end of the shaft, locktight the pistons onto the shafts on both cylinders and re-lubricated, they still leak!

I get so tired of buying peoples junk sometimes. I'm about ready to just call Sierra and order the mains for this bird. since I already have his tail wheel in it, which does not leak by the way.

Completely ridiculous!

I too had problems with leaking pistons with the air up/air down (Gen5) retracts.

Fortunately my local distributor were GREAT. After one of the replacement units had also turned out to be faulty they sent me two to make sure that I got a good one. Naturally, this time both were good.

Thanks again Austar-Model!

Yes mine are the Generation 5 air up/down retracts. at first I thought the O-rings just didn't fit or something, but upon further inspection they fit quite good. I cleaned and re-greased, same problem.

I took them apart again and cleaned all the grease off of them and re-lubricated with mineral oil. Now they seem to be working flawlessly.
I don't know why, but if I use lightweight oil, the cylinders operate very smooth by hand. If I use grease in them (I used Robart Grease) they feel rough when operated by hand and don't seal properly.

????????????????

I'll see if they hold air overnight, I suspect they will, I just cycled the gear like 60 times and had no more problems.

Well, progress has been made. Wing done, ailerons and flaps installed, adjusted, hooked up, whatever. Retracts in but not yet plumbed. Wing joiined and mounted. So it's up on its wheels, which as you know gives one a real sense of accomplishment no matter how much is left to do.
Has anyone built a support for the area where the wing mount bolts go into the fuse? The plates where the bolts go are just glued to an unsupported part of the fuse and seems to be pretty flimsy to me.
I'll attach a couple ofpics if RCU will let me.
Al

Nope. RCU says no pics tonight. I'll try again tomorrow.

PSDJBF, that cockpit kit looks magic! really nice. i hope your doing a sliding canopy so that you'll be able to see that great cockpit.

I'm also using HM Krauer in my Fw and what i have done is bought a flying cap from another figure. it's tan in colour ( RAF desert pilot) but i'll just dye the material to suit and my old boy will have a flying cap!

Just for a information, I'm running mobyal's "spring-air's" in my kitbashed CMpro fw-190 and they are running fine... the only things that have happened are that the main pin that the gear rotates on came out, but i have put some high speed ali tape on either side of that. the other problem was one of the grub screws that hold the oleo lower portion on fell out during taxi trials. i made up some new pins that fit tighter in the slots and they have been great ever since. i'll be adding some robart in-line restrictors soon to see how they go.

Thanks

Dave
