Well, here it is up on its wheels. Sierra Giant Scale retracts, OS Max 120AX, Skyshark D9 spinner, DuBro tailwheel. The retracts are not yet plumbed. All servos, except for retract, and control surfaces are in and hooked up. Battery mounted on the front of the firewall. Haven't yet installed the onboard glow system, which will also be mounted on the firewall, and need to cut a hatch for all the "stuff". I can say, though, that this thing is going to be H E A V Y! Haven't yet put it on the scales, but it's a load to pick up and doesn't come close to balancing at this point.
So far as finish is concerened, I'm going to do the cowl w/ the JG1 black and white stripes, and Dennis Kirby is making up Heinz Bar's 200 victory/Knight's Cross rudder markings and the vertical fin swastikas for me. It won't replicate any specific aircraft, but this is just sport scale for me. Have made the cockpit armor plate and will find a pilot to go in there.
It's been a good bit of work, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Merry Christmas, everybody!
Al

Well, more progress to report. I'm getting there, guys! Back on it after a break to work on the Staggerwing. My two favorite airplanes on the board! My cup runneth over!
Got the cowl painted, the rudder and vertical fin markings on. It's now trimmed the way I wanted. Pics will post, I hope. Spinner's not yet painted, tho. Retracts are plumbed, switches and fill valve installed. Thanks to Aslan (Joe) for the pilot. Need to do better with the tailwheel and install the onboard glow. Muffler's ordered. Then comes the moment of truth. Balancing! But I can see the end of the path, I think.

Hey AL,
Thanks again for the link for the graphics. I'll contact them to see what we can do.
We must be on the same page, cuz I JUST finished my TF Staggerwing and now the 190 is next in line.
The one I just picked up is basically un-built. It was started, but not too much was done. Engine (Evolution 35CC) is mounted and the control surfaces are all done, too.
Ordered the Skyshark spinners (2 & 3-blade) after reading this thread. Good call on that one.
Will post some pics if I come up with something to add.
Regards,
Wally

JD,

Great looking setup.

Where did you get those blue standoffs from?

Thanks,

Carpilot,

Do you mind showing some pics of the details of your engine setup? Muffler, exhaust, etc.

Thank you!

Wally,

Did I get it right? Are you putting the Evo 35 in the FW?

Yes sir. It was mounted when I bought her a couple of weeks ago. Seems to fit well!
Let me see if any of my iphone pics show it....
Also bought the Skyshark spinner(s) for it.
WOW are they great people. I ordered on 2/2 and it arrived today - 2/4! The spinner are well shaped and sized, too. I'm NOT expecting perfect and these are just great for my tastes.
I can't wait to put it on the nose to see how it looks.
Don't know whether I'll go two or three blades. JETMEX may steal one for use on his CMP Zero... Right now he's stolen my Staggerwing spinner, but when he see's these, he'll be snooping around for a swap!
I see on the pics that the cowling looks totally mis-aligned with the engine - that's because it is not even mounted yet - I just threw it on to see how things look.

Ok, so why in the world do my little iphone pics come out HUGE when my hi-quality, low-res digital cam pics stay small. I'm not loading them any differently???
Strange!

I would guess because these pics are a low DPI and a large physical size. A 10"x 8" image at 300dpi is 41"x 33" at 72dpi.

F82FAN,

You really made my day! I have 3 Evos 35. Ina Staggerwing, in a H9 P-47 and in a H9 P-51. I couldn't be more happy with that engine.

I noticed people was talking here about installing a 26 and I was wondering if it wouldn't be too weak. Now, with the great news that it fits in the cowling, I'm ready to buy the plane and the engine.

if possible, I'd really love to see more pics as your progress goes on installing the engine.

regarding the spinner, are you going to paint it?

Thanks a bunch for the input!

Thanks Flavio,
Will try to line things up and install the spinners this weekend. THIS is gonna b a fun airplane!
BTW... I am changing the tailwheel assembly to look like the retract, but it will be fixed (and light and reliable!)

I'll be interested to see what you do w/ your tailwheel. I'm still fiddling with mine. It looks like the retract (sort of) and will be reliable, but not too light. I'm still open to suggestions.

Y'know, I gotta make a decision here. Do I swipe the two-blade spinner or the three-blade? So many choices......

A model of this size and weight will be fine left free wheeling.Unless ye plan to taxi forever.I used the large dubro scale tailwheel. It would be a waste of time and effort to try a use a steerable one.The rudder is easily large enough for ground handling.
two blade.....two blade......two blade

Flavio
From initial reactions of those that have built this thing (I haven't even read the instructions, yet!), it appears that the tailwheel is meant to be put on the bottom of the rudder, kinda cheesy - but simple, and definately NOT very scale. So, we either live with it, or do a little "fixing" as we like to say down in the southern US.
I picked up an assembly from the LHS that, I hope, is about the right size and not very heavy. I will install a former to attach it to and use a pull-pull system for it and the rudder.
I will post pics as I go if it works as I dream it to.

Aslan,
Jetmex is SUCH a cheap b@$t@&d that I just have to put up with his occasional thievery of my stock-pile of goodies. Since he's stealin it for his Zero, I'd bet he goes 3-blade...
I'm a very tolerant, benevolent dictator with him - he does pretty dang good work!

Hey Moby,
I don't know many details of my tailwheel yet. I don't even know which one I purchased. It was the old Goldilocks decision (that one is too small, that one is JUST right)... I saw the pics of yours. I'm not certain that mine will stick that far below the fuse. We shall see....
Still love the mods you've made to the paint and markings. Keep it up!

Forgot to answer about painting the spinner...
YES, I will probably do a re-paint of the cowling and add paint on the spinner to finish it up. Can't leave well enough alone!

Weatherman says no rain this weekend, so do we fly, or do we build??? Picking up the new KMP Bf-110... Arrgh....

Hey Sym,
I'm a computer-illiterate dork. That nice explaination means nothing to me!
Seems backwards that the fewer the DPI, the larger the image on here...
If I try to figure it out it only fills my head with non-aviation related uselessness.
Thats cuz I'm an idjit when it comes to 'puter stuff!!!!!!!

more often than not its a issue with RCU when loading your files/pictures, when it happens most people dont go back to there posting and correct there photos when RCU has fixed the issue.
if you go to your posting and edit the photos out, and reload them they will probably go to thumbnail size it happens all the time it probably has nothing to do with the picture size or device taking the pic at all.

Hey, I resemble that remark!!

Tell you what, Wally. I'll trade your P-40 with the red spinner for your three blade spinner, as long as it has the Focke Wulf attached to it. What do you think?
