Mpizpilot, love the colors...! Really cool and even though it's never been seen.. Who knows what the Germans had as most were undocumented and never seen film! I've always wanted to step out of the box and make my own version! I'm glad someone finally did something extremely different!

Sure couldn't say you didn't see it but word of advice.. Stay away from that big yellow thing in the sky..I lose my Fw190 all the time on a clear blue day..lol

On the subject of pilots, I can't bring myself to spend $70-$90 for one of the bbi or dragon pilots for this plane. Can someone recommend another option?

You could do like I did with this russian pilot, since none were offered. I started with a "nude" figure, added a officers uniform. Flying cap, goggles and boots. I still need to find american parachute, as they were out of stock.
So far its cost me less than 40 bucks, and doesn't look half bad either! I'll add gloves when I get the parachute, that should complete him enough for me.

I got a couple of the BBI pilots off ebay for a decent price the german one and the P-40 pilot they both were about 40$ea. it took a few tries to get the right price but well worth it my son is at the point where he doesn't play with them so now I can incorporate them into my models without any grief for buying some (dolls/action figures) hehe on ebay

Well, a bad case of the "I wants" got me and I ended up with this guy. Has anyone done a sliding canopy on this bird? Even if it's just manual I'd like to give it a shot. Never tried one before.

Ah yes you had to buy it lol and a good move im about to start on a sliding canopy for the ESM 190D9 there about the same i know Ram did one for his A8 im just waiting for my cockpit kit and TY canopy to arrive before i start as i belive one needs the other to do a moving canopy, if you are looking at it i would consider useing TYs canopy for it (much thicker and stronger) the canopy will flex due to the tapered A8 cockpit same as the D9 so rails will be needed i belive starmer is looking at one as well all FW canopy,s in the full size have a small hinge at the front of the moving canopy part at the top to allow movement

stick I have one of Ty's canopy's and there way stronger than the stock version, the plastic has to be at least twice the thickness def strong enough to do a sliding version,I think Ramstein did the movable canopy on the A model check back a few pages for pics

my A8 has the TY canopy thats why i was heading that way with the D9 easy twice as thick waiting on the wheels for the D9 and other things im putting in a set of glennis wheels hate the cost but only way to go as this will be a total scale build theres not a lot left of the origanal ARF kit as it is now lol the tracks for the canopy are made from k and s brass tube square with a slot cut in one side then a dubro ball link is used as a slider you can buy the square already cut but ill do it my self as i have the gear yeh i,m in contact with RAM and he,s been there done that with most of the FWS

I did a sliding canopy on mine.. Well the one I had. Think earlier in the thread, pics were posted.I also ended up with several of the same pilots figures which were purchased on eBay for about $45 each. Really nice!

Shoot, I forgot the canopy isn't correct in the back. How did you make the rear fairing part, fiberglass?

Since this is considered an Arf and none of this kit is accurate, I tried not to complicate it so I used the existing fairing and suppirted the bottom with light balsa stock about 1/8inch and glassed it for strength. It's my intentions to do another and I'll post exact details of that one which will be functional with an air system like my ESM Dora. I was just experimenting with this one and didn't do it to the standards of my larger more scale fw190 kits.

My Dora which is posted, I used all g10 for it's canopy supports and milled rails.

Ramstein,
Do you have a page number or link to where you show how you built your canopy rails etc. I'd like ot see how you set it up.

Hi,

Here is a link to another FW190 build, at 1/5 scale, so slightly larger than the 70" ESM KMP/YT one here, the canopy mechanism is very similar to the way I believe you are trying to set yours up, anyway it can't hurt to take a look.

Recieved my pilot today and am very impressed. Never thought that at age 39 I'd be playing with dolls again. It is pretty cool though, lots of little details everywhere. Now I'm not sure how I feel about putting him in an arf, lol. I may have have to build a meister or holman kit around him(been thinking about it anyway). My camera is a POS so excuse the out of focus stuff.

It could be worse. I was in the bedroom sorting out my closet and started picking through my pilot figure collection when we had a couple that we know drop by...one of the kids answered the door and said to them, "Hold on a sec, I'll get my dad. He just in the bedroom playing with his dolls!"[X(]

You're right though..they are incredibly realistic

Hi,

I have had this KMP Focke-Wulf FW 190 (70" wing span ) sitting in my hobby room for 2 years half finished. I have decided to finish it and hopefully someone can help me out? I don't like the stock tail wheel assembly... is there one that is a more realistic I can purchase that will fit?

Was just in the same boat. If you search this thread with "tailwheel" you'll see what most have done. I did the same using a dubro unit and looks much better

Those dubro tail units look a ton better. You can get them 1/3 the price from hobbyking.
