RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Good Morning,
I am building the KMP P51B model. I have a question about joining the wing halves? When building from kit or scratch, I have always reinforced the wing joint with a piece fo fiberglass and epoxy. How do you go about dong this on an ARF without ruining the finish on the underside of the wing? Or is it not necessay? Thought you needed it for extra strength.
Thanks for you help,
Bill

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Bill,
If the P51B is similar to the FW190, there is a reasonably thick dihedral brace that slides into both wings. All that I did was to make sure that the brace fitted well into both wing halves, and that the wing halves butt closely together in all places, top and bottom.
On my FW190 I needed to rasp the top of the brace to get the wings to fit well together. It is also a good idea to check that the incidence at the wingtips is the same for both wings before glueing. Better that way than aligning the wingroots and having the tip incidences different. In my case the wings were true so the roots aligned OK anyway.
I used 30 minute epoxy to glue the parts together to give some "sliding" time by which I mean that I coated the wing brace slot as far in as I could, then coated one side of the brace, pushed it in and out of the slot to get the glue spread throughout. I did the same with the other wing slot before coating the wing roots then pushing the brace and wing halves together so that the epoxy was right up the the top of the wing skins. You can wipe off any excess with surgical spirit.
With the epoxy evenly spread over the joint as described, I don't believe that you need any additional strengthening.
Hope this helps,
Al

Hi,
At the risk of boring you all, here is another movie of my electric YT International FW 190, shot today. Less wind this time, so you can hear the sound of the motor.

Was I seeing things or was one gear leg down for some of that? Looks like the right leg was down around the 2:30 mark.
Too cool at 5 min mark with the 100% engine in the back ground.
One beautiful flying and looking plane, well done.

Hi,
Yes I was having a few problems with the undercarriage, it didn't seem to want to lock up despite rolling inverted from time to time. It worked fine on the ground before and after flight and it was doing the same thing today. Maybe the airloads on the doors are the cause? Has anyone else had this issue?
Slight change of subject, but here's a movie of my FW190 and my mate Dave's P47 in the air at the same time shot on 19 April, which I had forgotten about . Both use the same electric power train.

Hi,
Yes, the P47 is also a KMP/YT International product. Here's the link to the KMP version:-

Hi,
Here's another movie shot today - I was trying more vertical manoeuvres (cuban 8's mainly) as well as more rolls and slow rolls.

Thanks Bigtim they look about right and a lot better in strength than the pica spinner which had about 9 screws around the rim of the back plate, which let go yesterday. half the spinner unraveled while the engine was revved out in flight . The cowl got chewed up pretty bad too.

Hi pencom.
I have used the skyshark spinner on mine and it looks pretty close to scale.
Be aware that you need to buy the d9 spinner and not the a8 one as its way to small for this 190.

Decent close up at the start of the video. Spirral works pretty well at idle also.
Good luck with your model.

Hey Pencom
If you take a look at Post #604 on p25 you'll see my KMP 190 w/ the Shyshark D9 spinner before painting. (It's now the same flat yellow as the cowl ring) It may not be exact, but it's a lot closer than anyhting else you can buy off the shelf, so far as I know.

Hello,
I'm now also the proud owner of a fw-190 from KMP. Does anyone have any information on the IMP cockpit kit, even maybe some pics?
I will be using an aerovate 26cc gas engine. Hope this engine will fly the focke with authority.

Hi,
I got another couple of flights in today without any wind.
I have installed a modified tailwheel which looks a bit better than the last one.
The sky was very overcast but here they are anyway:-

Hi,
They are the generation 5 retracts. They are OK but the adjusting eccentric tubes to reduce slop tend to move on landing - that's why the legs are not at the correct angle. If anyone has a good fix for this, I'd like to know.

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
the imp and your work look awsome, were there any issues with the fit? I'm also thinking of installing "OTTO", an elite force WWII pilot. Will this work with the IMP Kit?
Any one flying this with a 26cc gas von KMP/Aerovate?

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
mo , let me state a few factors , the kit in the pic for me is a CMP , while the span is 71" the fuse is actually 1/5 scale CMP is known for being off lol .
I think it would fit in the KMP Fw with out any problems at all , of course because its an interior kit , cutting and fitting is part of the job . The IMP kit is made for a 69" span Fw190 , so it should not be that off .
The pilot should work , I am useing one from the same company but I cut the body off , used the head , hands and feet and outfit and shed the guy from 7.3 oz down to 3.1 oz
