RE: Interesting New P-51B
I would like to see an alternate canopy for an A-36 Apache version. A set of air actuated Robart Econo retracts would make it even better. I am waiting to turn a 1/5th P-51B into an A-36 with dive brakes too. These will be servo actuated.

RE: Interesting New P-51B
Just got mine yesterday for $319. They really did a great job on this kit. The tail wheel is in the right spot, not where most other P51s are. All the servo covers are pre-installed and ready for your servos, the canopy is in place and screwed down, the wheel wells are cut and trimed nicely. They also didn't place the stickers on the plane so you can customize it you'd like. The instructions are very detailed and list everything needed to complete the kit and even which servos and extensions are required. The covering on mine looks great only a few minor wrinkles to iron out after it's together. Overall a great kit!

NoFlaps,
Mine will be an electric conversion. Mike at Sig also wanted me to do a write up on the electric conversion, so I will be starting a thread on my build too. I should be getting started on Friday with my build. I just gathered all the parts and just need one more servo and I am good to go.
Setup:
Motor: E-Flight Power 60 w/ 16-10 or 16-12 prop
ESC: Castle 85HV
Battery: TP 6S 5000 mah pack
UBEC: Castle w/ 11.1 volt TP 1320 lipo (receiver pack)
Servos: wings = 325 (4)
ele & rud= 322
retract= 75 or 507 high torque
I also will be adding some ole struts to the gear to make landings softer. I don't have those yet as they are on order, so I may fly it without them for the maiden flight. I will go with the following thread title: Sig P51B - electric and you can go Sig P51B - gas
Good luck and keep us informed. I will try and post everyday and make sure to post if I run into something interesting or strange.
Jeff

Sounds like a great plan...[8D]
My engine has been ordered.
FPE 1.3ci 21cc
Hitecc servos
Spring air retract components, but not sure about the manufacturer of Oleo struts yet...I'm low on funds[ X(]
there will be a gew other lil' changes, but it should be great.
I look fwd to seeing yours.

How much horse power does the 1.2 ci put out? I will be getting about 1.75 horse power with the electric motor setup. Should fly great if I keep the weight down. Looks like installing the tail wheel might be tough, but I won't know until I get into it.

Evil,
Thanks! It sounds like our setups would be very similar and make for a good comp between the planes. It would nice to get some speed numbers with a radar gun after the builds too. We'll have to see which one weighs more too Can't wait to start on this one!

RE: Interesting New P-51B
I have to say I throughly enjoyed building my SIG 1/4 scale Cub and floats. It was an excellent kit and while not a warbird shows the quality of completeness of the kit. The hardware pack was top quality and I was able to use it all on the kit, a lot of kits you throw the hardware away as it is rubbish.
Top quality wood, the manual was consise, very detailed and easy to understand. The average builder could follow the manual and build a very nice model.
Keep it up SIG. We need more Western made kits.
Shame all schools don't teach model building as a life subject. Here in Oz many of the schools do in fact have an aviation subject where R/C planes and theory are taught as well as design and building skills.
