RE: New composite spitfire
Yeap, thats the French company.
They make VERY serious, not to mention BIG... jet models.

Couldn't find that spit, only the last foam wing version but it sure looks nice.
How much?

1: 5.5 Scale 80in wingspan, billed as an ARF, approx 30 hrs work for the previous kit of this a/c that required the wings in 3 pieces joining and covering.I guess you could have this fully composite everthing, ailerons surface hinged, wings ,stabs plug-in flying after 15-20 hrs.
Very impressed so far with the quality/lightness of components (designer gives wt as 7.5 to 8.5 kg dry)
I intend to fit mvvs 26 gas motor (designer recomends 20-32 2 stroke and 20-30 cc 4 stroke power)
Surface moulded detail is the best I have seen in a moulded kit (aviation design produce very fine turbine and D/F kits see their web site(the ARF Spit is not there just the older kit on which its baced)
I have a lot of projects on the go but hopefully this will be flying soon. I have the YT Spit pictured as well but the product is miles behind the AD one.

Very good company to do buisiness with excellent communication via e mail (I have no connection with this company, but I think it's good to be able to give possitive feed back to ballance some of the not so happy storys on RCU)

RE: New composite spitfire
Alan, basic price is 640 euro or $864 us, sounds a lot and is, but to scratch build to this standard counting hrs and materials then I think its's well worth the money. I have had 1/6 MR Spit with missmatched port starboard FG fuz and mind blowingly complex wing/tail plans that require the imagination of JK R to complete. I have a Retlas Spit and your late MK. The best so far has been the YT , quality/price. I prefer the MK 9 profile and I have examined some of the AD jet products, so I had no hesitation in ordering their Spit unseen. I had the missfortune to see a World Models "Spitfire" stagger around the circuit and plant itself on our vast tarmac (in Dubai) That pile of balsa and shiney film covering costs over $800 in Dubai....
I am so far, happy with my purchace!
I look forward to the new comp Spit from YT, will be an interesting comparison , any idea what MK or price for that one?
Regards Chris

Very nice design, looking forward to seeing how it balances as it is 100% scale. Other similar composite design of this plane has been very tail heavy...hope this one is not as I really would like to get one myself...

Rick, I am fitting an mvvs 160, with an inch driver xtension should be well hidden in the cowel.I will obviously cut an intake/exhaust for cooling.
Flypilot, composite elevator, rudder and plug in stabs appear to be light but strong.

RE: New composite spitfire
one problem with the plug in wings is access to the fuz. This is through the cockpit, I think I will make an access hatch underneath, this will also aid wing servo/ air line hook up.

RE: New composite spitfire
Thanks SandSeeker...wish i had seen this offering before i bought a yellow aircraft spit. I've got a lot of work ahead of me. Will be interested to follow your build. Will the 160 be enough power? Is that box, just glued to the fuse or does it interlock? I'm working on a water-cooled, gas-powered, powerplant with functional radiators and exhaust for merlin, griffin, allison engined warbirds - hate cutting holes. Hope to have something to show by summer. Weight is never the issue in the nose of these planes. Yet, cooling seems to plague everyone. I may have to buy this kit anyway. Seems like a good buy for the money. Where did you buy from? How long to ship to states? Any other purchases tips?
Cheers,
Rick

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi Rick,
The engine box sides (uprights) go through the fire wall into the fuz and are part of a substantial internal structure interlocked by the wing spar tube. I will try to get a pic if you want.
I purchaced direct with no problems, you could buy through Altecare in Canada the post from France to Dubai was 130 euros and took 10 days.
Good luck with the YA Spit, I looked at that one too but prefered the earlyer mks.
The 160 should be man enough as the a/c is light, ready to paint with no primer or surface detail to add just the raised joint lines need sanding down. The ailerons are ready hinged (nice) but if you want flaps you need to cut out and build.(Eric told me they are not required for flight she lands slow and stable)
The water/liquid cooled power plant sounds interesting, Mvvs do one but its 50cc (I think) too big for this A/c
cheers chris

RE: New composite spitfire
It can be done, the inner section of flap will remain on the fuz like full size. It takes a fair amount of work to acheive a scale opperation( you have to get the dremmel out to open up the wheel bays, I may just keep going and cut out he flaps too!) depends if you want to build or just fly, either way this kit will get you in the air before spring time!

RE: New composite spitfire
Dear Sandseeker
I think you would kick yourself later, if you did not fit flaps to your Spit.
A Spitfire is a thing of beauty, it looks fantastic roaring around the sky with it's wheels up.
To my eyes the classic Spitfire shot, is when it is coming in to land off of a curved approach
with that narrow tracked undercarriage down and those inner and outer flaps deployed. Fantastic!
What ever you decide to do, good luck.
And Happy Christmas to you from the United Kingdom.
Regards Phil G.
