Looking at a YA T6 for my next project. I am thinking Evolution 77 radial if it will fit. What is the diameter ofthe cowl and the distance from the firewall to the front of the cowl? Thanks

Hi there RCPILOT78, whats this storing off site, run out of room at home.
How's old 77 going still flying, well I assume. What's your current project, started anything yet?

Yes still going on my AT6 but didn't get much done last weekend as I had to build a steel fence at home (bosses orders) at the side of our house. Now that it's completed I hope to spay the fuselage of it this weekend. Needless to say the weather for this weekend looks to better anyway.

I have now purchased painting masks for my trim work and also some water slide decal paper to make up the nonomclature what little there is of it.

By the way you may be able to assist me (once again) do you know of anysites or have any info as to what nonomclature is on an AT6, Such as aroundthe wing fuel fill caps "91 OCT ONLY - 45 USGALs etc etc,
also where is the engine oil topped up from, it looks to me to be up on the top left behind the cowl!

I am also going try and contact the current owner of the the full size AT6(Civil Reg N45CT)and see if he will send me some pics of her by email as I have only seen one pic on the web and nothing more,
It's actually owned by William Reeves from Columbus IN but since I don't have anyemail address for him I will have to write and send him a letter by Post.

Anyway RCPilot hope you are keeping well, will provide further updates asI progress.

Cheers fornow,

OldDC (Dennis)

HI oldDC Still working on my Yellow aircraft p-38 kit......very close to flying it.... My T-6 is doing fine and yes I have run out of room in my shop.

The oil filler cap is on the left side behind the cowl. at least that's were number 77's oil fill door seems to be. As to nomenclature I also have had a difficult time locating exactly where it all goes. the only for sure ones are the fuel tank markings which indicate the octane to be used , and I believe it indicates 100 octane Actually if you can get close to one and take photos of the different wording and the locations that would be much easier. I missed OshKosh air show in Wisconsin again this year, there are many A-6's that attend the show. Would have been a great time to collect documentation .

OK keep up the good work rcpilot78

Tp777fo, I have the 7-77 in mine and it fits great in length and diameter. Just nearing the finishing stage right now, so I have not flown it yet, but the power on the test stand seems to be good. Once i get the motor mounted again I can try to post pics.

Thanks to RCpilotf78 and flingwinger for the info. I think it will be a great combination. How about some pix of the Evo in the T6 just to get me motivated. Cant wait to see video of this combination.

flingwinger....what are you doing about fuel for the Evo. The formula i rather different from anything I can find premixed.

For break-in I've been running a 50-50 mix of omega 10% fuel and methyl hydrate (methanol 99.9% pure). After this gallon of omega is gone I will be running straight methanol and klotz oil to make the mixing calcs much easier not to mention much cheaper. Have a look at the evo radial thread in the glow engine section for tons of great and important info on these engines.

Hi there RCPilt78 and others, well I'm still going on my AT6 scratch build from Brian Taylor plans and I hope attached some progress pics for you all. Next step is complete the nonclamatuer, do some dirtying up and wear marks then clear coat.

I have also made up my own water slide decals for the nonclam which has come out great, will post some more pics later.

Cheersw for now and keep the great building and the thread going, you have all been a great help.

RCPilot78 how's the P-38 going? Would love to see some pics of it, just hope you still have room in your workshop.

Beautiful finish OldDC. Mind sharing what your process is for the very authentic appearance of the natural aluminum?

Hi There Chad,
Firstly thank you for your kind comments,I am No genius (You guys are the best), when it comes to scale as your guys are the ones that have probably unbeknowns to you help me enormously.

The silver I used was an epoxy based KillRust with a little bit of black flat enamel added to take some of the shine off it, but if you use it it is very difficult to use paint masks over, as the mask will pull off any paint on top of the expoxy. I ended up painting talcum onto the masks going as close to the edges as possible but even then the mask still pulled off some underlying enamel. So basically I had to hand brush the line work.

Which added a line of time to what should have been an easy job. I wont use any epoxy paints in future.

I would use any sort of enamel with some black added or if preferred an acrilic with black added, that I found gave the most authentic colour to the silver we wanted.

Regards Dennis OldDC.

Hi RCPilot78 and all others.
As you have all provided a wealth of knowlege thoughout my build I though I should share some pics of my finished project.

Ok as some of you know mine is not a Yellow model but scatch built from Brian Taylor Plans at 69 in wingspan.

All items operate as they should including retracts, split falps, sliding canopy, full lighting including instrument lights. Power plant is a ASP91 4 stroke with a flexable exhaust coming out in the scale position.

Again thank you all for your help.

Maiden will be later in the year as we are having a holiday in Hawaii first, then run the engine in etc .

Hi Sam I see you have had both the Yellow Aircraft AT-6 and the Ziroli AT-6? How would you rate them on both build and flyability? I am looking at both and can't decide. Any help would be appreciated.

I only had the Yellow's but I've seen all three fly (Z, Y and Byron) and they all appear to have the same flying characteristics. As for the build, the Yellow's wings and stab are already covered, plus a FG fuse, so it will build much faster.
Yellow's price used to be around $600 plus shipping and a full Ziroli kit about $400, plus plans, canopy, FG cowl and wing tube, so, price wise, considering most of the build work is done, the yellow is probably the most cost effective. (Z also has a FG fuse).
I'm partial to all wood construction but, if building again and considering build time, I would probably get the yellow kit. One big plus for me for building all wood is, if a part is damaged, with plans to cut new ribs/formers, I can more easily fix or build a new part. Plus, with wood, I can really make critical stress areas extra strong and also make mod's to the plans: one of which is to make the nose of the fuse an extra inch longer on giant scale planes; it's not noticeable and can save 4-5 lbs of nose weight for balancing the CG.
Both Yellow and Ziroli make excellent planes.

Thanks for the reply Sam. I'm going to have to decide which is the better kit for me. I was leaning towards a fiberglass fuselage but now you have me wondering if an all wood kit might be better in this case.

This is the first time I have tried to contact any one about the Yellow Aircraft AT-6 that I have. The plane was flown 3 times before I got it but it was never painted. It has swaped hands several times since I got it. There was quite a few of things that I have done to it, however the building was done by someone who knew what they were doing.
I am wondering if you would help me with the gear doors? One of the doors was missing and the other one was hanging on by the hinge. There are two ball links with a 1" piece of all thread on each landing gear but two balls are missing, one from landing gear door and the other one is just missing along with the door. Could you tell me how the ball link is mounted to the door as well as where on the door it is mounted. I have no plan or instructions for the plane. I ordered a new set of doors but did not think to ask about a plan. Judging from the price of the doors, I could not afford them anyway.

Thanks,
Larry
