RE: 25% Cessna L-19/0-1 Bird Dog build
Here is the Excel spreadsheet I have developed. I use this to get a quick overview over the size and weight of a potential project.
It´s filled out with the data from my current project, but you can easily enter your own data in the gray boxes.
The full size data I normally find via Google.

Pelle,
That's a nice looking Tri-Pacer! I like the 1/3 scale models quite a bit, but don't want the airplane to be too big to fit in the car or house (neither does my wife). The aesthetics of the model are wonderful! Thanks for the spreadsheet, it looks pretty useful!
Take Care,
Matt

Hi all,
Is there a rough cost for completing a 1/4 scale L-19 + engine + electronics+ other hardwarethat anyone can think of off the top of their head?
Any cost pitfalls that snuck up on you while completing the model?
What is the most cost effective engine for the model?
Thanks for any inputs!
Best Regards,
Matt

Hey guys I bought a 1\5 scale Vailly aviation Bird Dog herenon RC Universe its a beauty. Im afraid to fly the thing, there are no wing spars or wing tubes to support thewings, the two wings bolt into the top of the fuse thats it . Do the wing struts support the wings by themselves, I cant believe that would be adaquate enough to hold this bird together. Am I heading for an inflight break up or do you think Ill be safe flying this machine.

I have the 1/5 l-19 by Roy and it flyes great. As long as it was built to spec's and the Struts are built right and everything is secure the wings will stay on, the struts are functional and if they fail you will need a plastic bag to take it home in. make sure all screws are tight, and then check them again. And the hold downs are solid. But remember it is not a sport plane or pedal to the medal flyer. Fly it scale and it will hold. Wing overs, loops, rolls and inverted are all possible. Cut back on the throttle on the down side of manovers.

My Birddog is ready to fly today weather permitting. This is modeled after one I flew in in Vietnam as an observer 1971. This is a replica of one that was destroyed while attempting to land. A gust from a thunder storm pushed it into the concertina wire. Started the build in October.

Maiden flight attempt. She wanted to fly to soon. I didn't keep the nose down long enough slight quartering crosswind right wing came up left wing stalled. I got It level landed hard on left gear. Bent the gear no other damage. I think I could have fed in more power and flew it out of the stall if I had a little more runaway.

It's a long winter lots of time to build. She has a OS max 55 under the hood. I attempted a take off the other day she wanted to fly before I got the air speed I needed got on the ground ok. Bent one landing gear. It is fixed and waiting for a better day.

This is the L19 birddog the that my model is replicating. Caught a wheel in the concertina wire when a gust f wind pushed it while landing.

I also found that about 10-15 degrees of flaps help smooth out the take off as well. At full throttle for takeoff the flaps tend to keep the tail on the ground and it just takes off from the tail down position.
The link below shows how tame the takeoffs are now. The first landing.....not so good
I hope this helps.

The finish is 3/4 oz glass epoxy resin warbirds paint. Corrugations on the ailerons are plastruck. I ran out of that very expensive materiel so I cut spruce strips and sanded them all. All glue rivets and resin panel lines. Full cockpit. OS 55 for power weight is just over 30 pounds. Below photo of 0-12282 taken at Phu Cat central highlands RVN

Thank you for the information. I will try flaps next time on a wind less day. Tell me more about the gyro.
