Ram-bro,
honestly, I had not thought about selling it, but I might consider it. It is complete with engine and retracts installed. Never flown to my knowledge. I will try to post some photos of it to this thread if that is ok. You guys can tell what it's worth.
Thanks,
James

I actually picked up a Byron Corsair yesterday, I am the fourth owner.. It flew in the striking back show at least a couple years in Ankeny.. Its got some small problems but overall just needs a good clean, examination and radio upgrade. I probably won't get to that until next year as I am buried in projects now
Brought home a 90 percent finished Staggerwing as well

Ram-bro,
10 plus years ago my Father purchased this from a gentleman in Florida. He was getting out of the hobby. It was my understanding that the plane has never been finished or flown. There are some small things left to be completed like wingtip lights, fabric covering on outer wing panels is coming loose, etc. When my father passed away 3 years ago, I ended up with the plane. It has been in storage since Dad bought it, awaiting the day that I would have more time to get it airworthy for him. That was not meant to be.
I have not looked it over closely, unfortunately today we had several customers in for training and I only had about 5 minutes to get it out of storage and take some pictures. I'll try to look it over more thoroughly maybe Wednesday after my customers are gone if you would like.

I often wondered what happened to my first corsair.. i sold it to fred mena AKA "check 6" back like in the end of '99 . fred sold it and it was lost to history. It started out as Jap Zapper but fred redid the paint and put it to either kempfords or boyington's colors . the guy on the right is actually Manford von Richthofen's great nephew. the first pic was how it was when i first built it.

Ram-bro,
here are some more photos. Honestly it is the first time i have removed the inspection covers and looked inside. It appears to have a full radio installation with various JR servos and receiver. The engine is a Saito FA450R3 with three ignition modules. Even the battery pack is still in the plane. All of this gear was appears to have been new 10 plus years ago. Anything that used rubber bands or two sided tape to attach it to the fuselage is now loose inside because the gum of the tape or the rubber has given up the ghost. There is some hangar rash from being shipped from Florida to Kansas and the fabric covering on the outer wing panels would need to be re-done. Otherwise, I think the plane is in pretty good shape considering. Reference the photos for any more information.
What do you guys think, in this shape the plane is worth?

It appears to me to be painted in a semigloss epoxy. The paint is applied nicely and evenly, with a smooth finish. It appears to be Insignia Blue to my eye, but I do not know for sure. From what I could see today it looks structurally fine. Nothing with the formers was loose. The fabric covering on the outer wing panels seems pretty heavy to me. That is one of the reasons I wanted a copy of the assembly manual to see what Byron suggested in that area. The heaviness could also simply be the addition of multiple coats of primer and paint.
my plan for this plane was to take it apart and check it out structurally, reinforce areas if necessary, service the Robart gear and make sure it was functioning properly, and finally I intended to upgrade the avionics with new modern radio and servos(2.4ghz). After that, I would address the cosmetics.
That's it in a nutshell.

Great looking bird, but, take heed of my posts about the stabs, and the terrible way the kit has them secured, or not secured to the fuzz with any great security

My new find , a Byron Corsair fully dressed (old futaba receiver) Sachs 4.2 , pur-power muffler , Byron wheels , Byron prop and hub .
I got this from an acquaintance who bought it from an estate , but as the owner had passed away I do not know who the original builder was .
i am going to overhaul her and am thinking of using a saito FG 90r3 for power instead of the Sachs .

Anyone still active on this thread?
So I acquired a NIB kit, everything included...retracts, Quadra 52, etc..... I was planning on starting my build later this year. At the 31st Bomber Field show yesterday I happened upon a RTF Byron Corsair with Sachs 4.2, no damaged history and very well built, so know I have (2) Byron Corsairs! Will be going though the RTF one and making sure everything is ok, I noticed the fuel tank is loose as well as the Robart Air Tank is no longer secure.
I also have 2 H9 60cc Corsairs (one flying and one NIB) if I can find ONE more Corsair I will have enough to start my own squadron! Crazy about a Giant Corsairs!

I'm looking to turn one into a F4U-1 Birdcage Corsair for something different!
Here's shot of my old #29 playing tag with a friend's TFGS P-51D.
