Yak-3, scale 1:6, composite build
Long time ago I was amazed by this airplane, build few small static models and decide some day to build flying scale model. Now this time come finally, so here it is:
The model will be 1:6 scale. Power 4120 or 4130 depend on the final weight. Optional 0.60 should fit nicely under the cowl too.
Wingspan - 60", length - 55"
Weight hopefully in range of 7-9 Lb.
My build start from fuselage. I have to make positive mold first, so first I build a frame that will be covered with depron and filled with expandable foam. Then will be covered with fiberglass and detailed. Here is build process so far:

RE: Yak-3, scale 1:6, composite build
I'm doing it for fun. Honestly haven't thought about selling. It is more challenge for me to do it fully composite, than for easy replication. But let see how the project is going to turn out first. If all is fine I guess it won't be a problem to fit few sets...

Understood! Just do what you can, the Yak-3 isn't common on any fields yet, only RedStar RC and Patrick McCury (PCM) have or had Yak-3 kits. And I think only Bates does the plans for one...
Its a great choice to get to now before the ARF folks butcher its incredible lines!

Well, this is way i had to draw my own set of plans. Really great bird with lots of fighting history and yet, almost non existent on most modeling fields. As far as I know very well flying too.

Actually is method I use for first time and I'm curious how will turn out. In any case I hope will be fine.
Reference materials are from books and plans published in different magazines. I have gathered some info about this bird...

Wayne, thats a really awesome offer! I wish there were more full scale rebuilders/restorers like yourself!
I'm building a Fw 190D9 right now and I'm having a hard time getting any information from the fellow with the Flug Werk Fw 190D9.

RE: Yak-3, scale 1:6, composite build
good luckwith it, I have a Yak-3 on my list and have started collecting bits for it. Mine will be the Jerry Bates 92" span version but with a Spychalla fiberglass fuz and build up wings.
I have everything ordered, fuz, plans, canopy, spinner and partial kit from PCK plus Seirra retracts on order.
We have a full size Alison powered one not far from here and have seen it perform at various airshows, campred to the P51s the Yak is little rocket ship. Low altitude anyway, would be different at height.
All the best
cheers

There was an orginal FW-190D13 down at the Caplin Museum in Arizona that was restored by GossHawk Unlimited in Casa Grande, AZ I'm not sure if it's still in Arizona, or it may have gone to Paul Allen's collection in Washington. The web site for GossHawk Unlimited is www.gosshawkunlimited.com. They may be able to help you.
update - It's at the Seattle Museum of Flight

Well, at this moment is kind of early for me to think about particular color scheme or airplane. Later will decide on that. In any case I'm going with pure Yak-3.
