TF FW190 Engine choice?

RE: TF FW190 Engine choice?
I flew mine with a tower hobbies .75 and at 8lbs+/- it hauled it around fairly well. I believe the AX is built more for torque, so it should pull it even better. I now have a TF mustang with an OS91 4 stroke and find it to be a very good match for power and reliability at 8.5lbs.
P.S. That tower .75 was a real piece of !$&* and ended up costing me my 190, whatever you do make sure you put a reliable engine in your plane.

RE: TF FW190 Engine choice?
Have you thought about electric. I'm working on mine now and I'm fitting a Hacker A50-12L with Thunder power 6S 5000 Li-Po. I used this setup in my H9 Mustang with an APC 15x8e prop and it was so nice to fly. Plenty of power/acceleration, would climb so well and I can get 10-12 minute warbird flights, or 15 minutes + stooging around. A friend of mine also fits sound systems into his, which reroduces the engine sound of the real aircraft. No mess after a flight and less vibration as well.

I cant wait until electric finally takes over the market on the less than 12lbs plane size. I know the performance is now here, but the cost still seems a little steep. My local hobby store just upped the price on glow fuel again so maybe the switch over is not to far away.

FB , I am looking at the same questions for my preplanned Dave Platt dora , this is my options so far --4 stroke - with macs products muffler extension , this will allow tight turns in the cowl area and reduce exposure
2)eletric
3)RCV- 4 strokes with macs muffler extension, ---this one is my least favorite

I have one of these in the box still, so I am not set on my engine choice just yet,I am leaning towards my favorite engine the OS 91 surpass, but one of my club members has one and he uses a Irvine75 in his and it flys fine at 12lbs,I was there for the maiden and the 75 pulled it just fine,he also used the TF in cowl muffler, there's no engine visable at all.

My Platt Focke Wulf 190 D-9 started life with a Rossi .61 RE with a pipe down the right half of the fuse. Its vertical was good, allowing for scale size loops with plenty of control at the top. Rossi’s however had a tendency to go through bearings regularly so after the 8th season it was done in competition so I replaced the engine with a Super Tigre S90k because it had the same hp. Well Rossi horse powers were much larger because the Rossi flew it much better in the vertical with a smaller prop..
Vertical is the key with this plane because with that big blunt nose it will bleed off speedfast. I’ve tried to put a 4c on mine but its 26 year old frame just can not handle it so we stick with the 90 and shorten up the loops. With the 2C it is fast on level but losses speed by the buckets in a vertical pull.
I have a Flop Tite Focke Wulf 190 D-9 kit and will build it some day and it will get my YS 1.4. Because nothing fly’s like a Focke Wulf (best flying planes I’ve flown). Groves like its on rails and when you hit the ailerons be ready cause she roles faster than any plane in WWII.

"Because nothing fly’s like a Focke Wulf" -- Yup, my TF 190 flew far better than my TF mustang, and my mustang flies great. I wish they would bring it back with an improved fiberglass cowling and gun hood.

If you can stand having the cylinder sticking out the bottom, the YS 1.10 or 1.20 makes a great engine for this plane.
I used the Skyshark gun hood and made my own cowl mold.

The ailerons are built up with ribs and sheeting as is the rudder, but I don't remember there being any detail drawings of the real structure on the TF plans.

RE: TF FW190 Engine choice?
Do any of you guys have some tips on doing the tail wheel .... I'm building the Royal/Maratuka fw190a8 and have yet to work a solution?
I'm looking for somthing that isn't going to break right away....it does not have to be scale....but would be nice if it could.
