Greg Hahn... Did you "sell out" to Top Flite?
In the rescent "Model Aviation", Top Flight is running an add that has the NERV to compare their B-25 ARF to a "Top Gun" winner. They actually state that it is tough to tell between the two pictures, and ask "which one is which?, one being Gregs B-25, the other being their ARF. Personally, I find it insulting to my intelligence for "Top Flite" to try to convince me that their ARF is any where NEAR a true scale competer. Top Flites nacelles, vertical stab and rudder, fuselage cross section, canopy and flaps(just to name a few) are ALL WRONG. I understand that this is just an ARF, but if you're (Top Flite and Greg Hahn) are trying to pass this off as a "tru-scale" model... You both have an other thing comming.
... The nerve.

Good luck with this, I commented once that the Ziroli Corsair was semi-scale and the Fatwa that the religious Ziroli followers put out on my head lasted for quite a while. His adds say “scale†plans so I guess that could mean anything. Maybe you do have a point or in the fine print maybe TF means from a couple hundred yards or when you look at a picture with a grainy web cam?

Read (and understand) what I said before you make comment. I didn't say I am mad or got mad. What I said, even as YOU quoted me as saying was "I find it insulting to my intelligence". There is a difference.

The B25 went to China, (via Japan) and now the B25 has come back from China - different form no doubt.
Maybe TF have been using same campaign manager as Hilary and Obama? Poetic licence et al.

By your comments it's surprising you had the cajones to even admit to reading such a "commoners" magazine. You are obviously the last person Top Flite is targeting in its advertising so take a deep breath and allow us low life ARF builders the enjoyment of seeing one of the finest scale modelers alive endorse a product for which he was the primary flight test pilot. After all Greg did work for Great Planes...or didn't you know that "Mr. Intelligence". Why don't you impress us by posting some pics of your totally scale projects so we can marvel at your incredible talents!

That hits the nail on the head, about fell out of chair.
If a guy is happy with a TF ARF that is stand off scale, great, it is there for him to buy. If it is not for you dont whine about it just do your own thing.
From what I see in the add its an ARF, something for a guy to take and play with by adding some weathering or other touches and have fun with. Something that you take to the field and have fun with, with out having the knee knocks or heart aches because you didnt spend 9 months and 1200 hours laboring over it. It is what is and nothing worth getting your shorts all wadded up over.

Since you asked... My 190
I'm not whinning about it guy, I'm calling attention to the absurdity of comparing an ARF to a Top Gun model.

Mustang, those are real sharp. I'm not to big of guy to admit you got a talent. Which I can see would rubb you the wrong way to compare an ARF to a ToP gun project.
But like I said the ARF is what it is an ARF and I think TF comment was not meant to be taken so seriously.
Again nice work.

RE: Greg Hahn... Did you "sell out" to Top Flite?
Thank you Gary, I mean it.
The last thing I want to do is have to prove a point. As a matter of fact, I happen to like the Top Flite stuff (Hangar 9 too), especially the 25. Thought about doing one my self for fun.
You're right though, the Top Flite comment probably wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It just gets in my crawl when I know what it takes to build a high caliber model(as do the real masters of Top Gun, to which I step aside) and have a company compare their ARF to a true "Scale Model".
Thanks for seeing where I'm comming from.

Mustang51,
Those are very nice models. I especially like the P-47. I hope that I can build like that some day.
Now, I'm an old man and I've been around a long time and seen a lot of history, and I'd like you to think about this. It doesn't much matter what you meant to write; it's what you wrote - and how a lot of others seem to have understood it - that matters.
It seems to me that separating people into classes (SUV drivers vs. Prius drivers, smokers vs. non-smokers, gun owners vs. anti-gun owners, scale builder vs. ARF buyer, rich vs. poor, and on and on and on) has gotten to be a big business in this fine republic of ours and too many of us have bought into it.
There are a lot challenges facing this hobby of ours and one day we'll be fighting the tree-huggers who will claim that we're producing too much carbon dioxide or too much noise or some other nonsense. And I can promise you that those who would love to have us all flying nothing but little electric foamies down at the soccer field (but only when little Johnny isn't playing soccer) would just love to see us feuding amongst ourselves. When the time comes, the last thing the anti's will want to see is all RC fans banding together into a powerful opposing force.
So you go on with your divisive comments. But keep in mind that you are not helping our hobby when you do it.
Best regards,
Mike

Well Dave, actually, I was always partial to your Daddy Rabbit ...one of the nicest P-47 schemes I have seen. Thumbs up on that one for sure. You still have that bird?
Actually, I find the AMA mag a waste of time, so I never even open the cover[:-]. Personally, I find it discouraging that there are no mags out there really publishing designer plans (Scale RC, RCM, etc.) . There are some guys out there designing some nice plans....a skill I do not have.
This is my latest creation, a 115 inch Polikarpov I-16 (warning...may only be appealing to me[8D])
