RE: P38 "FULL METAL JACKET"
Hello Graham!! Please take as many pictures as you can, and video it if you can. If I could afford a ticket, I'd come to the U.K. and see her myself, but that can't happen[&o]. Maybe some day, and the drams or more at the pub .
On another note, we ordered the ASLA paint for my project, the day you gave me the info about it. It's still on back order [:@], and no light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Graham
Your new bird looks great!! I finally finished my Ziroli Mustang and got her maidened! Thanks again for the inspiration and all the tips on the Alsa Chrome..the blow dryer really helped a lot!...I ended up using PPG Flat Clear for final base coat for the weathered look, plus thanks to Talyor Made Decals too...

Hi Mathias,
Great to hear from you,and your labour of love has paid of Big Time, your P51 looks amzing, that pic of her in the air looks so convincing, and I'm glad we got those decals and Paint masks sorted out for you,it's just a shame all you guys are so far away,as it would be a dream to have A world Fighter meet, one day I will get back over to the US,might even bring a few toys over
Mathias once again brilliant job on your Pride and joy, can't stop looking at those pics.
Hi Skull,
Yes I'm hoping Mr Dibble on this forum will take some pics of her with his super dooper camera and his good nack for getting the right shot.
Yes alsa are a bit on the slow side at times, the first batch I got from them took 6 weeks!!!! but that was by ship.
I will keep you all posted and lets hope the weather is nice to us Brits, FAT CHANCE!!!!
Here are some shots of some rusty bits!!!!!!!
Cheers Graham

RE: P38 "FULL METAL JACKET"
Gram, agin at a loss for words on your craftmanship. I second the motion for lots of pictures and video of the flight. Best of luck!!!
Dibble, I was looking at the photos of the split in the booms. Hard to tell for sure but what I circled sure looks like a pair of butt joints on the former. If so the only strength would be in the planking, and that spot is the fulcrum for the elevator to work against.
I by accident or good luck I guess, found a similar condition in my VQ version. Thou mine was right where the elevator and vertical stabilizer meet at the boom. The lower spar stops right in front of the location, and all that travels back to the end is a couple of balsa stringers, and the covering. That's it, to support the tail assy. First in flight stress and the tail would have separated. [:@]

Hello 82 (Matthias),
Were you the chap I tried to help with the Prudence scheme??- hope it was because the end result looks awesome.
May I ask with hijacking Graham's thread what modifications did you make to the Ziroli airframe to make this look so scale???
Best regards
Jason

RE: P38 "FULL METAL JACKET"
Hi Jason (yes sorry Graham...last post on this..)
Yes we emailed a while back last year and we were trying to find more photos of Prudence...only a 5-6 around..., I found you via some of Graham's threads, and checked out your P51's...thanks a mill for your words, help and inspiration too...
Modifications were fattened rounded back bottom end and rudder, the 2 bottom large and small radiator doors, full cockpit with a sunken rear deck (Ziroli's was higher) scale type wheel well covers....then the Alsa chrome over various panel colors of dark basecoat, glossy and flat and wooled in various 45 degrees to get the "Full Metal Jacket" then some camo.

We need to change the title of this thread,, to "The greatest builders post here", or "Get ready to be blown away!" And for those of us with only a High School education, "You ain't gonna believe this s#%t!"
I keep saying this, BUT, Holy Cow can you guys build a model!!!

And behold on the seventh day he rested. Well actually he drove to RAF Scampton to make everyone feel inadequate as scale modellers. Well done Graham

Here are some more shots from Scampton just after I had put her all togeather, thanks Andy as you have managed to capture the chrome.
Hi Hello82,thanks for your kind words, and the paint is Lesonal Platnum not Alsa.

Again Graham, words escape me, other then Master Craftsman in every way.
I bow to your workmanship. Makes my attempts pitiful next to it.
Too bad you are on the other side of the pond, I''d love to commission a build, and I''m sure there would be a lot of folks standing in line for your expertise.

Hi Zorby,Skull and Glacier Girl,
Once again thank you all very much for you support on the 38 it does mean allot to me and it pushes me to do more.
Yes the work is starting to come in and I might even give up my day JOB!!!!!.
Glacier Girl I would take on any comission builds, but it is the shipping back over to the US,but it might be worth looking into,or you could always make me an offer on this one !!!!! at the end of the day every thing is for sale including my Fat Bod got to pay all those bills some how!!!!!
Cheers Graham.
