Default Yellow Aircraft P 40 soon Engine?

Hello guys just wondering if anyone has actually flown this P 40 with a DA 50 and if so how was the performance. I will be starting on one soon and would like to use a DA 50 but the weights I am hearing for its AUW seem alittle high for a DA 50. I have a DA 50 in my TF GS P 51 and I love the engine in that plane it flys very well but that bird only came out to 21 lbs. I have not bought an engine yet but was wanting some opinions before I got to that point. Thanks for any help, Kevin.

A buddy of mine flew his Yellow P-40 with a DA-50 and it flew great. He flew it with a 20-10 Beila three blade prop. He would not use that engine again though. It is very hard to get it in the cowl too. It had to be rotated slightly to get the muffler in. He plans on using a ZDZ-80 in his next Yellow P-40 wih a scale exhaust. Motor is at $1100.00 bucks though, but it would fit right in, and swing the scale size 3 blade prop. A G-62 is a really good option with a prop extension. Tru-turn is doing a prop extension on the DA-50 now too out of steel.
Good luck.

heres the link for the keleo exhaust http://www.keleo-creations.com/index...k6ks83o0vm2ug0
if you go with that the engine will bolt straight up. i have a da-50/keleo set up in a skyshark p-40n.

If I went with a G62 who makes a prop extension for that? I looked a Tru Turn did not see any prop extensions listed. What does the prop extension do allow the motor to be mounted right to the firewall rather than having to be extended out to clear the nose ? I just know I do not want to have to move the firewall back I really do not want to mess with that I don''t trust its integrity at that point. Thanks for the post guys. Kevin.

You can get them from Horizon or Sierra Precision.

There is a box in the firewall that slides to where YOU decide it should go. Seirra has bolt on prop extensions for around $25.00 The prop hub extensions gets the motor back enough to get the carb and muffler in the cowl without cutting holes.

on the yellow p-40/g-62 will the carb clear the cowling or will it have to be cut? or have to use a carb bend? don''t get me wrong i love g-62''s, i have three flying right now, but the d.a.50 is stronger and the rear carb sure makes mounting easier. if you do decide to go g-62 talk to ralph cunningham and get one of his, i have two of his and they run great.http://rcignitions.com/

In my first Yellow P-40 I ran a Fuji 50, and it flew fine. The Da is stronger than a Fuji so you should have no problems with the airspeed. The Yellow P-40''s wing has a great amount of lift. If you can make the DA 50 fit, you should be happy with both the plane and the motor.

Thanks for the post guys. The P 40 is suppose to show up tommorrow and I will be able to get a look at what I am dealing with. I really can''t wrap my head around the firewall has a box that slides to where I want it to be, could you explain that alittle further. I hope that is the case but if it does shouldnt most any engine work length wise, or am I missing something. Thanks for the posts guys, Kevin.

Nice P 40 thanks for the pics. I would not mind using a 3W because the power to swing the three blade would definately be there, but I want to use a pitts style muff. I know that may sound crazy but I can''t see putting 400.00 into an exhaust, need the extra for other things. Thanks again, Kevin.

come on now whats another 400 when you have that kind of money in at already
it''s quite amazing when you see it in person though. i think the 3-w will be a good choice power wise. jeff
