Stuka,
You gonna post any photos of your build? I built a small 335 from Al Master's plans and it flies great. Looks good too, it's different, not the usual warbird. Speaking of different, here's my latest build.

Gary Heathcoat, who owns the Al Master's plans, is in the process of re-engineering the 335 plans...He has brought them into CAD and is re-working them to bigger, better, etc.
It might be worthwhile to wait vs fighting the Don Smith stuff...
Here's the link to the orignial, and i'm sure yo can contact him here.....

Stuka Jon, there are alot of parts to cut for Don's 335. I have all the stuff and don't know, should I sell her or build her. My emotions say build her my brain says dump her. So I will most likly build her. What you going to do for power???? John

Well I don't know what to tell you but I started and I will keep at it. I am planning to use a Quadra 100 up front and a Fuji 24 in back. The Fuji has been fitted already and I am installing all the interior work now wile I'm planking the outside. The rear end was a nitemare but I got thru it. I have the Stab on already. I think on second thought keep building, its really a differant aircraft and rest assured no one else will have one. Stuka Jon See attached photo

That's why I can't seem to part with it. I't is such a cool plane. The quadra 100 is enough to fly the ply by itself. what's the 24 for? Just to spin the rear prop. I have 2 3w-28's for mine but don't know if the power is enough. I was thinking maybe a 50cc up front and electric in the rear. John

Yes you guested it. It will fly on the 100 by it self,. But to make it a true twin I put the small gas engine in the back for noise and a small amount of thrust. Believe me you will need more then 2 28cc to make them fly. We are talking close to 50 lbs in weight. Wait till you see the size of the retracts(and the price). The electric in the back might make the building a little easier. Another nitemare the planking around the airscoop on the bottom. Stuka Jon

You getting the retracks from Darrell? I am finishing my 1/4 scale spitfire right now and will be ready to start my 335 in a month or 2. You are right it's a huge plane. Glennis makes some real nice wheels. Mind if I build along with you? It helps keep me motivated, and I think it's more fun. John

Stuka Jon N,
I like David am building the 1/4 scale Corsair and have had many a moment of confusion. Don leaves a lot to the imagination with his plans. You are basicly on your own with his plans. David I haven't seen you on my thread and have a couple questions to ask you.

John, I am not trying to take this off subject. But I think electric power would be a good option. I am flying an ME 109 at 19 lbs on the Eflite 160 turning a 20x10 APC prop. It has good vertical .
With electrics it really cuts down on the engine failure chances and they really stay in sync through out the throttle curve. Everything is totally inclosed. nothing showing. The standard cooing of the original plane would be enought ot keeo it all cool inside

I suppose electric is the wave of the future but I still get a large charge when a heavy metal warbird with a big engine makes a low pass and the raw power sound growls thru. You know the sounds the WW11 aircraft made. Just my humble opinion. I have crashed multi's before due to engine outs but the 335 shoud help in preventing that. Stuka Jon

Spent about 2 full days planking around the air scope on the bottom. If you don't like to work with wood I would not start on one of these 335's. Will probably work around the nose gear next. Waiting for 2 air tanks to put in fuse for the Century jet retracts. Stuka Jon ( See attached photo)

Cool thread Jon. I have these plans as well, waiting for their time on the bench. I can relate to your experiences with Don's plans. They are fun I'm definitely subscribed and looking forward to more updates.
Ahhh John (Lawndart65)... I found where you have been hanging out
I agree with Ty in that twin electrics would be an awesome choice for this plane. Admittedly, the price of a sufficient # of Lipos, chargers, etc. is nothing to sneeze at. Ty, do you have a build thread anywhere where I can get more information on your setup? I am particularly interested in hearing your views on the A123 cells.
Now, back to Jon's build.
Thanks!
Paul

If you want a good Do 335 kit check out these ones: http://www.wingsontheweb.com/
Gary has some pretty nice designed kits and they go together well. I am working on my second one right now and am about where you are in the process. I just getting ready to sheet the wings.
Here's a photo of my little one (40" wingspan) running on two Eflite 480 motors. It was used to test the design for a larger version. The plane flys great and is a screamer. Not too scale, but the next one will be very scale.
