RE: G 38 enough to fly a YA Spitfire
Hey Fred,
The G-38 will definitely not do it. I would only use it in a plane that's no more than the 17-18 lb range. I think the best prop for a G-38 is an 18x10 running around 7k RPMs. Definitely a 50 cc with rear carb is the way to go.

my dear check 6..... do you want to get a honest answer to your question?.....if your answer is :yes..... you better wacht '' top gun 1999 and scale master 2000 ''.....Both videos are from SKS production... You will see and hear the man himself Gary Bussell's yellow spit with a G-38.
Well... the yellow spit flys extremely well with the G-38 ...

I personally would go for a bit more performance than the G38 will give. However, I have NO doubt that the 38 would fly the plane just fine. But for the difference in price I would go for the larger engine, which would help with balance too probably.

I have some personal experience, as you know Fred, with a 27 lb yellow Zero and G38!
I know it's a completely different wing, but I suspect it'll fly fine... just be very, very respectful!!!
Your old Zero has become my favorite plane to fly... because I have to actually FLY THE PLANE!! There's little room for error so ever flight is a heart-pounding experience.... besides, there's nothing cooler than sucking up the gear as soon as the plane lifts followed by a very shallow climb-out. Very, very nice.
Have fun with that one, Fred!

RE: G 38 enough to fly a YA Spitfire
Hi Fred,
Two of my flying buddies have or had a yellow spit with a G-38. It depends on how you like it to fly. It will fly very nice and scale like. All maneuvers will be possible except for the big high pull up. It poops out pretty quickly. Loops are possible as well but not big gracefull ones.
Cal has a yellow spit now with the 38 and is thinking of swapping it out for a G-45. Kirk had one with the 38 and it was just shy of 27 pounds. It flew it but was not a rocket. If you are the only one flying, they look really nice, but as soon as your buddies launch with you, your spit can look a little anemic with the 38.
I'd go with the G-45 myself. Zach and Leo have the Da-50 in thier spits and they really are nice too. Probably the "perfect" engine with Leo's firewall conversion. Just depends what you have laying around in the garage I guess. Show us some pics if you have them.......I love the yellow spit!

RE: G 38 enough to fly a YA Spitfire
Hey guys,
Thanks for all the input. I guess I'll stuff in a G 62 since I have one hanging around, I was going to try one of the new Chinese engines the DL 50 or the other one I forgot the name. LOL
They seem reasonably priced and they would fit better. Anybody have any experience with these?
Thanks,
Fred

They dont like the light engines. How bout a 3-W 60 to 70 with a rear carb. I'll bet Evan Q has something to say about this engine choice.
I have a g-62 on mine. Muffler hangs out a bit though. Here is a couple of pics.
I know Jeff... I gotta get the guns on.
