Spectre1,
Nope, believe it or not, I finished building this model months and months ago but unfortunately I still haven't gotten around to maidening yet. I Even told f4u19, that I would give him a call when im ready to maiden but my Work and many other little side tracking things here have gotten in the way of being able to fly my Corsair which has been staring me down everytime I get back to the house. On top of this having seen these other guys putting some really nice landing gear equipment in their models has really gotten me to think twice before maidening. The stock gear right now is so unreliable, from being wobbly, fidgety for lack of a better description, both on the ground taxiing around my driveway to the way the retracts cycle in and out that I'm thinking of changing out the gear before its maiden, as soon as I can get around to it.

f4u19, I still have your contact number, i just haven't gotten around to flying the darn thing, I can email or call you if you'd still like to come down to our field to check her out. take care!

RE: KMP Corsair
Sounds great, I just got my Sierra Giant scale Retracts in the mail yesterday they look great. My corsair came in last month, but I sent it back because it had come with the KMP retracts.
Now it looks like it will be April. o'well it will be worth in the long run.

where did you get that great looking prop hub and spinner?
where did you get that great looking prop hub and spinner?
The prop and hub were hand made for scale static use only. The spinner was made out of steel on a lathe, it helped bring the C of G forward. As for the guns, some paint and a bit of sculpturing.
The test flight is postponed, we are still waiting for main gear retracts that'll be reliable. I've ordered 3 sets now, all no good, I'm sending the two sets of KMP retracts back and CJM sent the wrong set. I do like the CJM retracts they work well and I've used them on the CMPro F4U for 50 flights with no problems. The German retracts look really good, maybe Christmas.
By the way my Father built this, he's done a very good job. I just fly them. Thanks Dad.
Hopefully test fly on the 17th March.[:-]
More photo's to come later.
Regards
Jam.

RE: KMP Corsair
Does anyone have some photos of their flap servo linkage? I have read and reread the crappy manual and for the life of me cannot figure out what it is they want me to do to connect the linkage to the flaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK. I did read that but that setup is not the one I am having problems with, at the moment. I am having trouble figuring out the servo connection to the flap. The instructions are not clear about how the servo attaches to the flap. It appears that the servo arm is inside the wing and that the rod going to the servo leading edge is attached through the trailing edge of the wing with one of the copper "pins" but I am not sure.

lynn1130,
Yes thats correct, you have to figure out where to drill the hole in the trailing edge of the wing so that the pushrod can come through and exit to meet with the leading edge of the primary flap. you need to get your measurements correct first so that you wont have to drill too many or too big of a hole. This was another headache I had with those excellent instructions that kmp provided. It was extremely irritating and felt like kit building all over again. Even the servo hatch doors were of the same stock used for the aileron servo hatches, so at first had me thinking im going to put servo arms sticking out of the wing and attaching to the flap via control horns, so I opened those up, shame on me. They even included the extra horns as well, kinda made me wonder as there were so many conflicting things between the instructions and the model itself. Also, that copper attachment piece with the machined threads which attach to the flap, just make sure you epoxy those well into the flap as they can pull out easily from the flap in flight vibration, you dont want that to happen obviously.
Good luck!

2. Picture #13 shows the copper pin's insertion into the leading edge of the flap. It does not show the correct depth.
3. Picture #15 gives a side view of the connection, and shows how deep to insert the copper pin. Here the pushrod passes thru the wing trailing edge.
4. Picture #24 shows the external linkage that is not mentioned in the "manual".
And, if you have KMP retracts the drawing on the back of the "manual" shows the fill valve (air inlet) reversed. Air line goes on the other end.

RE: KMP Corsair
Thanks a bunch. I did the same thing with the servo arm slots. That was my fault for not looking at the manual closer. I will probably close those and match the paint later to keep oil and fuel out.
This is my second KMP model and I have built both kits and ARFs and some manuals were vague but this is the first manual that I can say is super hosed up.
