RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
as similar story is told here in Oz with the John Miles Inovations (JMI) range of kits, being the P51 both in 82" & 105" and the Griffon Spitfires of 90" span. I beleive these were also loosley based on Platt designs.
I do know for a fact the Spits and Mustangs that CJM now produce eventuated from the molds of these Australian kits.
My P51 and my MkXII Spit are both JMI kits and I would have no idea how old they are but would hazard a guess as being very early 90s. The P51 is powered by a ST2500 and the Spitfire by a G38.
cheers
Peter

In order for this to truly be the "Complete" Yellow Aircraft Spitfire thread I think it is necessary for the fans of this airplane to know the story of its origin and design. Back in 2004 at the U.S. Scale Masters Championships in Gardner Kansas I met Jim Cianciolo. He had a Spitfire at this meet that looked like a YA Spitfire, but it was not. It was its predecessor the KCRC Spitfire. He relayed the following story to me which I have recently asked him to record. I think you will find it very interesting as I have:

What a wonderful story and as with the real Spitfires these models do have a history and development time line that is very interesting to know and learn about.
Mmmm, nice Mustang there Pete, I've got one of them somewhere.
Cheers,
Brad

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
Well, no delivery today but I did achieve finishing off the two tail plane halves and most of the elevators.
Tomorrow I hope to sheet and join them with elevators finished.
I really enjoyed framing these up and had considered them a model all of their own.
Brad.

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
I had two boxes full of Spitfire delivered today!!!!!!
Very well packed from the factory and every thing arrived in one piece. The model looks great, the sheet plans and detail plan drawings are real nice and the instructions a bit 'out there' but a decent guide.
Its been a big day so no pictures tonight but I will surely post some pictures tomorrow.

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
Actually got to take the Spitty out of the box and have a bit of a play tonight.
Here are some pictures for all and especially those of you not yet fortunate enough to have seen such a quality kit.
Seriously though this is a nice kit and I wish I could have just walked into a shop and purchased it off the shelf for the price I paid.
Some observations;
Well packaged for the long trips and arrived in one piece, (had to cut box and foam to extract model)
Quality glass work, you can see straight away.
Fit of tail plan into 'slot' is a no brainer. I achieved this while holding my camera in one hand an was very impressed. (tail not to be used so I hope my built up on fits just as well)
Fire wall looks very strong with a fillet of resin around whole edge both sides
Canopy nice and clear (not being used) and frame work very crisp
Ahhhh that will do for now. Just check out the pics.

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
So, Brad, what 'cha got planned for the weekend, pray tell? I finished my Yellow P-47 a few months back and I have to say that it's a terrific flyer. I've heard nothing but great things about the Yellow Spitfire so I know you'll enjoy both the build and the flying. Enjoy, my friend!

Well heres a few of the Yellow Spitfire ARF that arrived along with Brads kit. I would of posted the Spitty pics directly to the thread but Iam having some problems formatting them to upload, so if your interested in seeing the ARF Spitty heres a link to my web site below, on home page click on "GALLERY" at top of the page and YELLOW SPITFIRE is listed toward the bottom of the gallery page. Sorry I cant seem to post a direct page link either for some reason as the home page just appears?

Marty, AWESOME ARF Mate!!!![sm=tongue_smile.gif] but I am still happy to have my kit
Scaleman that picture of the spinner is strange and 'long' looking. It is in fact the Yellow spinner and just about the same shape as the static one but a bit sharper/pointier at the front. I think the static one is a better more scale shape. I'll post a pic later.
Cheers Guys.

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
one thing i did do on this build that might be of help is i didn't add all that heavey glass cloth that yellow state to do on the wings...used light cloth all over and carbon cloth 4" width to join the wings...cut's weight down.......for the zeus 220 you have to move the fire wll back about 15mm as well..........tailwheel is retracting...blew up the Brian Talyor plan and made it from allumiuimn....works well....
i did make new cannons for mine...scaled the arthur bentley dwgs up...turned from model lab board.....also made balsa radiators...didn't use the fibreglass ones supplied....

What is the current pricing for the Spitfire (US)?
What is the current pricing for the Spitfire (US)?
My delux kit here in Australia was $550AU so im sure you would be about that if not a bit cheaper because of volume sales etc.
Just go ahead and get one anyway

RE: The complete YELLOW AIRCRAFT SPITFIRE thread.
I'm on night shift tonight so was able to get into the shed till the eyes were a bit droopy last night.
I sheeted both halves of the tail plane and made a new rudder core out of 1/64 abeechy and added lightening holes as well.
The kit supplied one was a bit bent (see pic) and looked a bit of over kill in the way of weight and strength. (I know things can never be too strong)
Next is join tail plane halves and final sand and cover. At the moment my built up is noticably lighter than the fiber kit one and I hope it is still the case after covering/filling etc. AND I hope my one fits as well as the kit one does into the fuz cut out.
Cheers for now,
Brad.
